Category Manager Energy and IT

Location: Cheshire, Hybrid working Model

We’re recruiting on behalf of an established, internationally operating engineering business based in Cheshire. They’re seeking a Global Category Manager with strong procurement experience in IT and Energy to enhance their technology infrastructure and energy management globally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic sourcing for IT (hardware, software, telecom, cloud services) and Energy (utilities, gas, renewables)

  • Develop Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models and present data-driven insights to senior stakeholders

  • Execute RFx processes, negotiate contracts, manage SLAs, and optimise supplier performance

  • Craft Supplier Relationship Management initiatives to drive innovation and ensure sustainable supply

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, Facilities, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Operations

  • Evaluate technical specifications for IT and energy systems to ensure quality, efficiency, and compliance

  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including cybersecurity and utility market volatility

  • Track and report key metrics, offering recommendations to enhance performance

  • Support global projects aimed at improving IT and energy efficiency

  • Deliver measurable savings and operational improvements through category strategy

  • Consolidate and strengthen the global supplier base for IT and Energy

  • Support ongoing digital transformation and energy sustainability efforts

    Skills & Experience

  • strategic sourcing or category procurement covering both IT and Energy

  • Proven experience sourcing hardware, software, telecom, cloud, and energy utilities (electricity, gas, renewables)

  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier development skills

  • Comfortable reviewing technical specifications for IT systems and energy

  • Degree in Procurement, Engineering, Supply Chain, IT, Energy, or related field

  • CIPS, SCMP, or equivalent qualification preferred
