Job Description

We are seeking a Power Systems Senior Technical Advisor to join our Power Networks team within our Net Zero Energy Business. This position would be based in Glasgow or Birmingham, with a flexible mixture of home-working and office collaboration time expected. We also welcome applicants wishing to work part-time. (Other home office locations such as Epsom or Leeds are also an option).

The UK Energy market is undergoing unprecedented change as the country strives towards a net zero carbon target. The sector must contend with high penetration of modern generation, transmission and distribution technologies, energy storage and prepare for the increased demand associated with the electrification of transport and heat as the countries progresses along the decarbonisation pathway. As part of the Net Zero agenda, networks have a crucial role in delivering the renewable energy which is required to be connected. The transmission network operators have secured c.£8bn as part of the RIIO T2 package.

Your purpose:

You will be responsible for delivering innovative and exciting projects from across the energy sector, either leading on these projects, or providing valuable contributions alongside other subject matter experts. By using your experience within the UK energy industry, you will provide our clients with commercial, technical and regulatory advice, across a range of different project types. You will be able to summarise your analysis and assessments into concise reports, as well as presenting findings to the client via meetings and workshops. You will oversee work from Engineers and Graduate Engineers from across the team in the delivery of projects, reviewing their work and providing appropriate guidance.

What you can bring?

In addition to strong communication and leadership skills, key attributes include:

Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience. Good knowledge of electrical codes and standards and regulatory/financial incentives for transmission and distribution network investment in GB. Strong understanding and leadership of the engineering projects through asset lifecycles. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

You may also demonstrate a selection of the following desirable requirements:

Chartered Engineer through the IET. Experience in regulatory and technical due diligence (vendor or buyer side) of transmission and distribution network assets. Experience in the preparation or assessment of business plans for regulated utilities and/or innovation project developments.
