Are you ready to take on a role where you can shape the future of technology in a critical sector? We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Digital & Technology to lead a major transformation of IT and Operational Technology systems within a pioneering engineering organisation working at the forefront of aerospace and defence research.

This is not just about maintaining systems. It’s about modernising legacy environments, strengthening cyber resilience, and creating a secure, future-ready digital foundation that underpins mission-critical projects.

The Opportunity
In this senior leadership role, you'll take ownership of the digital strategy and drive change across multi-classification IT and OT networks. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders to align technology roadmaps with long-term business goals, while ensuring that systems are modern, secure, and resilient.

What you’ll be doing
• Leading the transformation of IT and OT systems using secure-by-design principles
• Working with leadership to define and deliver the long-term technology strategy
• Overseeing cybersecurity to protect highly sensitive data environments
• Developing strategies to migrate away from legacy systems and implement modern solutions
• Inspiring and mentoring IT and OT teams to thrive during change
• Managing budgets, technology investments, and vendor relationships

About you
You will have a proven track record managing complex IT and OT environments in secure or regulated sectors, with a strong background in systems transformation and cybersecurity. You are both a strategic leader and a hands-on problem solver, confident working with legacy technologies while driving modernisation. To be successful, you will need to be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, TOGAF, ITIL or experience with ICS and SCADA systems would be an advantage.

Why join
This is a rare opportunity to lead a high-profile technology transformation programme. You will shape the future digital strategy of an organisation recognised for its engineering excellence, while collaborating with some of the brightest minds in research and development. The package includes a competitive salary, pension, private health insurance, share incentives, employee assistance programme, free parking, and 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service)

Cybersecurity has moved from a specialist concern to a national and global priority. Once seen as an IT issue, it is now a boardroom subject, a government responsibility, and a daily reality for individuals. With the increasing reliance on digital infrastructure, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence, the risks posed by cyber threats have never been higher. The UK’s cybersecurity sector is thriving. It is home to thousands of companies offering defence services, penetration testing, encryption solutions, and critical infrastructure protection. Demand for cybersecurity skills continues to rise, with both the public and private sector investing heavily to defend against ransomware, nation-state cyber operations, and new forms of digital crime. Yet the industry is still at the beginning of its journey. The technologies that will define the next two decades—artificial intelligence, quantum computing, extended reality, and the Internet of Things—are only just starting to reshape cybersecurity. This means that many of the most important cybersecurity jobs of the future don’t even exist today. This article explores why new roles will emerge, what they might look like, how today’s jobs will evolve, why the UK is well-positioned to lead, and how professionals can prepare.
