Team/Role Overview
The Cybersecurity Legal Team is a global team that provides Citi businesses and functions with legal counsel on all matters related to cybersecurity. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide legal support, advice, and guidance, in coordination with the Cybersecurity Legal Team and under the supervision of the Cybersecurity Legal group manager, on cybersecurity matters across Citi, with a particular emphasis on Citi’s UK, Europe, and Middle East and Africa clusters. This role requires a pragmatic, proactive attorney with thorough understanding of cybersecurity, combined with a solid conceptual / practical grounding in the laws and regulations for the geographies in which we operate.
What you’ll do
You will provide input into strategic decisions and exercise sound legal judgment to develop proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially business-oriented solutions.Among your tasks are the following:
Providing counsel on all aspects of cybersecurity incident prevention and response, including customer and regulatory notifications, contractual obligations, and legal risk mitigation, to cyber and information security stakeholders.
Advising business stakeholders on regulatory inquiries regarding cyber and information security issues and/or events.
Instructing Citi’s Cybersecurity Fusion Center and Citi’s business lines on legal risks associated with various components of Citi’s cyber and information security program, including matters involving incident response strategies, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance.
Tracking existing and proposed cybersecurity rules and regulations (such as DORA and the EU Cyber Resilience Act) and advising on legal interpretations in order to inform a compliance strategy.
Working with legal and product teams globally to review products, features, new applications and initiatives to provide legal risk mitigation advice.
Drafting cybersecurity presentations, exercises, and trainings, as well as presenting and participating as needed.
Counseling on the development and implementation of information security governance.
Updating cybersecurity policies, playbooks, and procedures.
What we’ll need from you
We are looking for an attorney who has experience advising clients on cybersecurity issues or supporting an information security team, who has a strong interest in pursuing a specialization in cybersecurity, and who meets the following qualifications:
Knowledge of cybersecurity laws, regulations, and practices, as well as the regulatory and legal environment in which Citi operates.
To be a self-starter with proven ability to apply sound judgment, engage directly with internal clients, manage multiple significant projects, and work well under tight time pressures. The candidate should be willing to work outside of normal business hours during emergency events.
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management skills, and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
Proven research and analytical skills.
Great attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities to deal with unforeseen events.
You should preferably have experience working in or with financial institutions.
Possess a Juris Doctorate (or equivalent law degree), is qualified to practice law in the United Kingdom (or equivalent jurisdiction), and holds a bar license in good standing to practice law.
