Security Officer

Northamptonshire

4 on / 4 off shift pattern (6am-6pm / 6pm-6am, including weekends)

£27,302 per annum

We are delighted to be supporting a well-regarded Further Education college in Northamptonshire in the recruitment of a proactive and professional Security Officer to join their Estates Support team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong security background to play a key role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, staff and visitors across a large and diverse campus.

About the Role

As a Security Officer, you will provide a visible and responsive security presence across the site, ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment.

This is a varied and hands-on role involving everything from patrols and incident response to front-of-house duties and supporting safeguarding initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to incidents including fire alarms, first aid and health & safety issues
  • Carry out regular patrols of buildings and grounds to deter and detect issues
  • Manage access control for staff, students, visitors and contractors
  • Monitor CCTV and alarm systems proactively
  • Provide professional front-of-house support, including ID checks and visitor management
  • Maintain accurate incident reports and security records
  • Support safeguarding, student welfare and mental health first aid where required
  • Assist with car park duties and site access control

About You

You will be a confident and approachable individual with experience in a security or customer-facing role. You'll be calm under pressure, proactive in your approach, and able to respond effectively to a wide range of situations.

Strong communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent service are essential, alongside the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Requirements

  • SIA Door Supervisor (DS) or Security Guarding (SG) licence
  • SIA CCTV licence (or willingness to undertake training)
  • Full driving licence with fewer than 6 points
  • Experience in a customer-facing or security role
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to train as a first aider

Desirable

  • Experience working in an educational environment
  • Experience working with young people
  • Strong IT and administrative skills
