Network & Security Engineer (119lw) - Hybrid (Remote/South East) - £50,000-£55,000pa + Benefits

Are you a technically strong Network & Security Engineer with a passion for Palo Alto technologies? Do you thrive in fast-paced environments where teamwork, precision, and continuous improvement matter?

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

We’re working with a growing, people-first managed services organisation that is investing heavily in its security capability. As part of this growth, they’re looking for a Palo Alto specialist to join their high-performing engineering team. This role would suit someone from a managed services, enterprise support, or defence background who is used to working in structured, high-responsibility environments - particularly those with a background in the military who have transitioned into technical roles and hold the required certifications.

You’ll join an established Managed Services & Security team supporting complex customer environments, with a strong focus on Palo Alto Networks technologies. Initially, your role will focus on BAU support (L2/L3) while you build deeper familiarity with customer environments. As you progress, you’ll have the opportunity to move into projects, deployments, and even pre-sales or service improvement initiatives. This is not a “ticket factory” role - it’s a position where you’ll develop into a trusted technical specialist.

What You’ll Be Doing

Providing 2nd and 3rd line support across network and security environments

Managing and supporting Palo Alto firewalls, Prisma/SASE solutions, and security platforms

Monitoring customer environments and proactively identifying issues

Handling incidents, changes, and service requests within SLA

Performing upgrades, patching, and configuration changes

Supporting onboarding of new customers and maintaining documentation

Collaborating with internal teams and vendors on complex issues

Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team knowledge

Gradually getting involved in projects, deployments, and broader technical initiatives

Essential

Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks technologies

Current Palo Alto certification (NGFW or SSE) – this is a must-have

Solid networking fundamentals (routing, switching, firewalls)

Experience in a managed services or enterprise environment

Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Comfortable communicating with customers and stakeholders

Desirable

Experience with Prisma Access / SASE

Exposure to SD-WAN or cloud security architectures

Experience with monitoring tools (e.g. SNMP-based platforms)

ITIL environment experience

SC Clearance

This is a fast-paced, collaborative, “people first” culture, where people genuinely support each other

A mix of backgrounds, including engineers from defence and service-led environments. Opportunity to work across both support and project work. Flexible working options. Clear progression pathways, funded certifications and structured training plans.

Please send a copy of your CV with a note outlining why this would be the ideal opportunity for you, to Liz Walsh at Ex-Mil Recruitment Ltd

Where to Advertise Cyber Security Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Advertising cyber security jobs in the UK requires a different approach to most technical hiring. The candidate pool is small, heavily vetted and in high demand across government, financial services, critical national infrastructure and the private sector simultaneously. Many of the strongest candidates hold active security clearances, are not actively job-searching through general platforms, and move primarily through specialist networks and trusted referrals. General job boards reach a broad audience but lack the specificity that security professionals expect. Specialist platforms, government-affiliated channels and cleared candidate networks each serve a different part of the market. This guide, published by CybersecurityJobs.tech, covers where to advertise cyber security roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

If you are considering a career in this field—or looking to advance within it—it is essential to understand what employers are really looking for in 2026. This guide breaks down the current expectations, required skills, certifications, and practical experience that can help you stand out in a competitive job market.
