Network Engineer (Defence)

  • Location: Bristol, Hybrid (3 days per week in office)
  • Salary: upto £53,381 per annum

Network Engineer playing a pivotal role in the development and management of a new defence network. This position offers a unique opportunity to not only support existing network operations but also to design and manage a cutting-edge network infrastructure.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide ongoing support for our current network operations, including troubleshooting, port re-configuration, managing warranty incidents, and software upgrades.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for external suppliers, ensuring that network-related activities are delivered cost-effectively and on time.
  • Utilize network management systems software and tools to collect data, model performance, and generate improvement proposals.
  • Assist in the resolution of network incidents and major security issues.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT Security function to support network security certification and ensure secure network operations.
  • Engage in project-related work, supporting future defence sector network projects and the delivery of network and security projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a networking and/or security role.
  • Willingness and ability to undergo government security clearance.
  • CCNA or equivalent vendor certification.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the latest technical developments in networking hardware and software, such as software-defined networks.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in enterprise networking, L2/L3 concepts, high availability protocols, next-generation firewalls, network monitoring tools, and network troubleshooting tools like Wireshark.
  • Experience with VPN & Remote Access and Wireless Administration.
