Role: Part-time Telephone Fundraiser

Location: Milton Keynes
Duration: Temporary ongoing
Hours: Part-time - Tuesday to Thursday, 12 hours a week (5pm - 9pm)
Salary: £12.62 ph
Start date: ASAP

Job description:
This role is based in The Open University Development Office, which plays a key part in bringing the University's social justice mission to life through ongoing philanthropy, partnerships, fundraising campaigns and alumni engagement. A key function of the Development Office is to secure philanthropic giving which enables the OU to continue reaching and supporting even more students and funding projects and programmes. We are also the home of the Alumni Association and work to create an engaged and connected global alumni and Honorary Graduate community.

Main Responsibilities
Telephone selected OU alumni to raise awareness of philanthropic supported University projects and ask them to make a donation.
To build strong relationships with our alumni and demonstrate their importance to both the University and our philanthropic work.
Compose and send inspiring emails with further project information where requested and arrange call backs
Maintain accurate records of all calls made on a specialised telephone fundraising software.
Other Responsibilities
All members of staff are required to:
Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required. The post holder is expected to be adaptable and flexible to meet the demands of the day-to-day work of the service.
Take responsibility for the Health and Safety of themselves and that of any other person that may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
Complete mandatory compliance training on Data Protection Information Security Awareness, Equality Essentials, Health & Safety at Work and Safeguarding.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles and practice of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Shift Times
Tuesday- Thursday evenings 5.00pm - 9.00pm

Expectations

Callers are expected to commit to their shifts and always act in a professional manner, as you will be the voice of the OU.

Callers are expected to make a minimum of two completed calls per hour.

Callers must be confident in asking for donations and negotiating, willing to gain an understanding of why the OU needs to fundraise and be able to explain this to potential donors.

Potential for a permanent OU contract upon successful completion of initial induction period, through satisfactory fundraising performance and sufficient progress within role.

Possibility of some hybrid working upon successful completion of initial induction period.

Person Specification:

Essential

Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English

Excellent listening skills

Self-motivated, with a keen interest in talking to OU alumni

Ability to work individually and as part of a team

Confident and comfortable in asking OU alumni for donations

Friendly disposition; able to build relationships with different people

Good attention to detail

A basic knowledge of computers and a willingness to be trained on specialist telephone fundraising software

Available to work evening hours at the Milton Keynes campus for the duration of the assignment

Desirable

An Open University graduate, student or staff member

Previous experience in either fundraising, outbound calling, telesales or sales.

Excellent negotiation skills

Experience of using a script within a call centre or sales environment.

Good knowledge of distance learning and an interest in The Open University

Understanding of and empathy for the OU's fundraising needs
