Security Operations Engineer
Hybrid – London or Newcastle
We’re Perenna, a digital mortgage bank that will revolutionise the UK mortgage market. We offer flexible fixed rate mortgages, with terms ranging from 15 years up to 40 years, providing full payment certainty and protecting borrowers against interest rate rises.

What you’ll be doing.
You will be joining our Technology team as a subject matter expert for all things security, helping to implement and maintain security services and solutions across the business. We’ll rely on you for your expertise to consult and support on security topics across Perenna as we launch, scale up and grow.
Here are some of the things you’ll do:
Implement, maintain, and optimise cybersecurity tooling, controls and procedures

– protecting systems and data across Perenna's estate is a critical function, so you’ll be at the heart of our cyber security work.
Participate in cyber security incident responses

– you’ll contribute across the full lifecycle, and be comfortable monitoring and analysing security events, investigating potential incidents, and providing recommendations for remediation where required.
Take ownership of vulnerability and threat management –

you’ll play a critical role in helping to identify and manage risks through to resolution across the technology estate.
Contribute as a security SME on projects –

you’ll be instrumental in ensuring that security requirements are properly incorporated into the design and implementation of new systems and applications by consulting and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Help make us more secure –

we know that cyber security is as much about people’s behaviour as anything else. You’ll deliver security awareness training and provide guidance to employees on security best practices, driving and championing a security first culture. We expect that you’ll stay up to date with all things cybersecurity, identifying emerging risks we need to respond to and proposing solutions for mitigation.

Your skills and experience.
We’re looking for someone who shares a passion for our mission, to change the way that mortgages work for people in the UK, and who has the drive and focus to take responsibility for a wide range of ever-evolving cyber security activities.
Here’s what you can bring that will make an impact at Perenna:
Proven and relevant experience working in cyber security, where you can show experience with using a range of security technologies such as firewalls, SIEM, endpoint protection, and vulnerability scanning tools.
A pro-active, self-starter mentality, showing that you can take the initiative and be comfortable owning outcomes – the scope of this role will expand and develop, and you’ll grow with the role.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, able to respond and prioritise with agility in a fast-paced environment. If you’ve worked in a rapidly scaling organisation, or you’ve had some experience at an early-stage company, this could be a big benefit.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills – you’ll communicate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, so getting this done effectively will have a positive impact on the whole business.
We are positive, energetic, and focussed as a team, and we enjoy finding pragmatic ways to do new things that change the status quo. We value transparency and collaboration, and we like to own outcomes but share successes. If these are the kind of behaviours that you value in your colleagues, you will enjoy the pace and style of work we do here. It’s a dynamic place to work, and everyone gets stuck in to whatever needs to be done to achieve our goals.

Rewards & Benefits at Perenna
Here’s what’s on offer:
30 days of annual leave, with Public Holidays on top.
10% company contribution to your pension (you put in 5%)
Private healthcare cover for you, and for your family if you’d like to add them through our BUPA plan. Our healthcare cover includes cancer and mental healthcare, access to a GP 24/7 and additional wellbeing benefits. You pay no contributions to any healthcare cover, just tax on the benefit in kind through payroll each month (no P11Ds to worry about).
Security for life events through our Income Protection Scheme and our Life Assurance Plan, which is worth 8 times your salary.
Support through our confidential Employee Assistance Programme whenever you need it
EV lease scheme through Octopus
Training and development opportunities to support your growth.
Our roles are hybrid. This means although we don’t expect you to be in the office every day, there are some things that are just better done together – collaborating on new processes and improvement to how we do things, informal chats and in-person get togethers to learn new things or get a wider perspective on what’s going on. You and your manager will agree the balance between working at home and at the office that best enables efficiency, connection and collaboration.

Things you should know.
Our selection processes are quick, but thorough. After a short initial chat to get some extra information about you, you'll have 2 interviews, one focussed on your skills and experience, and another looking more closely at what you value and how you’ll add to our culture.
We're a regulated bank, so if you're successful, our pre-hiring process will include ID verification, a DBS records check, adverse credit checks (not scoring) and employment history referencing before your start date is confirmed.
All applicants need to be fully eligible to work in the UK without any restrictions. We can't support Visa sponsorship.
The fantastic people we have here at Perenna come from a very wide range of backgrounds and communities, but we all share the same belief that mortgages should be better, and we all want to make that happen together. We’re passionate and proud of our unique proposition, our products and our mission. We collaborate and we support each other, and our culture is inclusive and open. Diversity of all kinds is valued and respected here, and whatever your background, your voice will be heard. That’s not just because it’s the right thing to do – we believe our diversity makes us better for our customers and helps us think big about our goals.
If you need any accommodation or adjustment to participate in our selection process, please let us know, and we’ll make it happen.
