Position: Infrastructure Security Engineer

Location: Farnborough (Hampshire) UK Office (Hybrid)

Job Description:

SS8 is seeking a hands-on experienced Infrastructure Security Engineer with who will be responsible for installation, maintenance, problem management, testing and documenting SS8's portfolio of infrastructure supporting Intelligence products. The role is mainly focused on VMware and Windows Server infrastructure but does also provide many other opportunities to branch into other technologies such as Linux administration, Kubernetes and cloud technologies.
The successful candidate will be required to work onsite in the Farnborough (Hampshire) office 3 days a week and have a valid UK driving license, as this role will involve ad hoc travel to customer sites and international travel. This job requires security clearance or the willingness and ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.

Duties/Responsibilities of Position:

  • Responsible for field installation & support of infrastructure hosting SS8 Products, often in secure environments.
  • Ensure all Client PCs and servers are appropriately hardened and secured in accordance with CESG guidance and industry best practice.
  • Domain Controller Administration - FSMO roles, ensure high availability and monitor replication
  • Implement periodic patching schedules for all client PCs and windows Servers deployed in customer environments.
  • Deploy and configure a suitable anti-virus solution for use by all servers and workstations in customer environments.
  • Deploy, configure and maintain fully integrated Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution
  • Document and provide knowledge transfer information across multiple groups within and outside of SS8
  • Assist customers with upgrades of hardware and software
  • Be the interface for New Infrastructure Introduction
  • Help customers with equipment configuration
  • Provide training on infrastructure operations, one-on-one or in small groups
  • Provide remote support to customer base
  • Will be required to participate in customer technical assistance troubleshooting conference calls
  • Will be required to participate in an on-call rotation with other team members in order to provide 24x7 support to our customer base
  • Requires 25-50% travel (including domestic and international)


Position Specific Competencies/Skills Required:

Essential:

  • Prior commercial experience in an infrastructure role
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Microsoft Exchange based messaging system
  • and VMware vSphere environments (including creation of VM's and virtual switches)
  • Experience with Windows Server update Services (WSUS), Active Directory and similar infrastructure technology such as DNS, DHCP, Organizational Units and Group Policy.
  • Experience with Microsoft deployment toolkit (MDT)
  • Capability to manage security baselines and hardening of servers.
  • Technical understanding of network and IT security, including Networking fundamentals - LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls
  • Outstanding customer service skills, including verbal and written communication
  • Must be able to travel (including having a valid UK driving license)
  • Must be willing and eligible to obtain security clearance


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux system and Service Administration
  • Knowledge or experience of deploying and supporting Network Attached Storage (ideally NetApp or Dell)
  • Knowledge of or experience working with a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution
  • Experience deploying and maintaining Atlassian Confluence
  • Broad knowledge of regulatory compliance
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized methods of deploying software


Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technology-related field (desired)
  • 5+ years of experience in high tech, preferably in telecom
