️ About the role

We are looking for super-talented infrastructure/DevOps engineers to help us build and secure the backbone of our products extremely fast. You’ll be joining the most lean, talent-dense, and fast-moving engineering team in London.

You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Designing and deploying cloud infrastructure. Own our AWS estate with Terraform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Building and maintaining our data layer. Operate multi-tenant PostgreSQL clusters, craft zero-downtime migrations, and write Python services that power our AI workflows.
  • Creating and improving CI/CD pipelines. Enable the team to ship safely and quickly using GitHub Actions, Docker, and modern deployment strategies.
  • Building first-class observability – Wire up metrics, traces, and logs (OpenTelemetry, Datadog / Grafana) so we spot issues before users do.
  • Optimising for performance. Profile and tune infrastructure, database queries, and application code to minimise latency and maximise throughput for our AI workloads.
  • Championing security – Lead threat modelling, incident response drills, and vulnerability management; harden auth, networking, and secrets.
  • Building across the stack. Roll up your sleeves when needed to get features shipped end-to-end.
  • Assembling a world-class engineering team. Partner with our founders to build, scale, and set the culture of our engineering team.

Who you’ll work with

Sanj (Chief Research Officer and co-founder): Sanj did his MSci in Physics at the University of Cambridge and his PhD in AI at the Gatsby Unit, UCL. He won awards at top AI conferences, worked on the R&D team at Huawei, and received widespread attention for his contributions to open-source LLM GitHub projects. He joined Magic Carpet AI as employee #4, where he developed AI strategies for trading which deployed millions of capital before being acquired by Blockchain.com.

Chris (Chief Executive Officer and co-founder): Chris did his undergrad at Imperial College, masters at the University of Cambridge, and PhD at UCL, during which he published 10+ publications and won awards in top AI conferences and journals. He has worked in leading tech organisations, including Dyson, The Alan Turing Institute, and InstaDeep before its acquisition by BioNTech.

Angus (Chief Technology Officer and co-founder): Angus did an MEng in Computer Science at the University of Bristol where he won a cyber security scholarship at GCHQ before working at Qualcomm. He then joined a London-based hedge fund, Coremont (Brevan Howard). There, he led a small team to build a greenfield trade processing platform which scaled to millions of trades per day.

You’ll also work with the rest of our super talented team of AI researchers, software engineers, patent attorneys, and go-to-market experts.

️ What you bring

As our founding infrastructure & security engineer, you will have extensive experience building software to solve impressively difficult problems through past projects, designs, or GitHub contributions.

Must Haves

  • 5+ years owning cloud infrastructure at scale (AWS preferred).
  • Expert with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
  • Deep experience with PostgreSQL (multi-tenant architecture, migrations, performance tuning).
  • Proven track record building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Solid understanding of security best practices (IAM, networking, incident response).
  • Strong Python skills.

Preferred Haves

  • Experience with ECS or container orchestration.
  • Experience with distributed task queues / worker systems (Celery, Sidekiq, Resque, SQS, etc.).
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry).
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI/ML infrastructure.
  • Background in offensive security or CTFs.
