Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Information Governance Officer to work with a Bolton-based Local Authority on a temporary basis. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week (Mon – Fri) on a hybrid basis.
Main Duties:

  • Manage requests under information rights legislation in line with corporate policies, communicating with requestors and services to ensure that appropriate responses are produced within the legislative timelines and recorded effectively.
  • Undertake internal reviews, where requesters have expressed dissatisfaction with the Authority’s initial response to their requests for information
  • Assist with and undertake information governance projects, including IG audit
  • Provide advice, guidance, and training to departments to ensure that they are compliant with statutory requirements, standards, and corporate policies for records management solutions, including retention and destruction policies
  • Interpret legislation for customers and employees on information rights and compliance legislation, in order to promote good practice and transparency, including the council’s publication scheme and open data strategy
  • Support the production of data protection impact assessments for new projects and initiatives, where required, so that adequate IG assurances are met
  • To assist in the production of data processing and sharing agreements and schedules between the Council and third parties/partners in order to protect information in line with DPA principals
  • Represent the Council as an information Governance officer on internal and external groups as and when directed
  • Investigate and report on data and information security breaches and make recommendations to resolve them.
    Essential Criteria:
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a Local Authority
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation
