This is a home based opportunity (remote working), responsible for providing 24/7 remote and onsite support to a multi-industry client base on a rota'd basis. Applicants are required to be flexible and comfortable working away from home.

Main Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of PLC/PC software application automation packages and be able to use programmers to diagnose faults on automated systems
  • Connect remotely on a variety of platforms to clients PC / PLC / SCADA applications and while working with the client, diagnose issues on unfamiliar applications - generally to move on processes and/or diagnose faults within the field
  • Identify Engineering scope changes and effectively manage the process of change control
  • Ensuring reports are detailed with root cause and resolution
  • Ability to survey automation systems and deliver adoption / obsolescence reports, advising clients regards risk and upgrade paths
  • Be able to effectively carry out automation small works and repairs estimates, with regards to hardware scope and man hours
  • Communicate with clients and observe production sequences providing ideas in order to provide improvements in rates of failure or productivity
  • Selection & specification of PLC/HMI/SCADA hardware and software
  • Comply with all BUK safety rules and create effective RAMS
  • Comply with all BUK company processes and procedures

    Qualifications and Experience
  • Completed an engineering apprenticeship
  • Previously worked within a maintenance and/or commissioning role, with the ability to fault find via multiple PLC manufacturers and types
  • Be able to make minor modifications to PLC code and systems including changing PLC cards, identify issues and rectify coding issues, ability to read code and move sequences on in order to continue production
  • Be able to connect and back up PLC and HMI software applications, storing and sharing as required by contracts
  • Able to complete PC health checks, replace hard drive, backup and restore applications
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal
  • Be able to work under pressure
  • Able to work alone as well as supervise a small team on specific projects

    Qualifications and Experience (preferable but not essential)
  • Familiar with detailed EICA specifications and understanding of scopes of work, EICA design drawings and EICA schedules which can include; cable routing drawings, schematic and single line diagrams, loop diagrams, general arrangement drawings, inspection and test reports and commissioning plans
  • Understanding of the principles of cybersecurity including layers of protection and the ability to undertake high level assessments providing recommendations for systems and process hardening
  • Selection & specification of general LV electrical items e.g. distribution equipment, isolation & control equipment, cables, protective devices
  • Selection & specification of general items of equipment e.g. converters, barriers, indicators, relays, junction boxes, panel, fixings, cable management etc.
  • Selection and Specification of Instrumentation Equipment for different types of flow, pressure, level, temperature and analytical instrumentation, including cables, Non I.S and I.S systems
  • Be able to connect to OS networks using products such as profitrace to report on and diagnose network health providing recommendations
