Location: Hybrid - A blend of working from home and your nominated hub office, we have hubs in London, Bristol, Manchester and Oxford. About the team:

Jisc's security division, part of Group CTO, protects UK Education and Research against a wide range of cyber security threats, supporting our members and customers in improving their digital resilience. This role sits within theArchitecture and Engineering team who deliver specialised security infrastructure, including robust and resilient data centres, comprehensive networking and server systems, national DNS and time services, and public cloud solutions.

About the role:

You will play a vital role in maintaining the infrastructure and critical services within the DNS and Network Time group. This position is key to shaping the strategic direction of the wider Cybersecurity division and directly impacts Jisc’s overall service delivery. You will take responsibility for the continuous monitoring, threat detection, reporting, and analysis of critical infrastructure and its associated services, ensuring resilience, reliability, and security across the organisation.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintenance and development of platforms and applications supporting the work of the cybersecurity function, including patching and monitoring.
  • To comply with service level agreements to ensure that it meets the needs of the business and products that rely upon this.
  • To assist in the monitoring and auditing of all systems to ensure all systems are performing and optimised to ensure that services are meeting the needs of the business and our members.
  • To provide second line troubleshooting and support to users of services hosted on the platform.

    Key Skills and Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge in Linux or Windows server day to day administration, including maintenance, upgrades, hardening techniques.
  • Experience operating DNS server technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of DNS record types and their use.
  • Experience deploying, Integrating, and administering a wide variety of proprietary and open-source systems.
  • Experience using various scripting/programming languages (namely, Java, Python, Bash, Golang, C, Perl).
  • Knowledge of running a backend database: PostgreSQL, MySQL is desirable.
  • Networking experience is desirable.
  • Experience with Network Time services is desirable.

    This position requires the successful candidate to undergo enhanced background screening checks, which include but is not limited to Basic / Enhanced UK criminal record check, Credit check, international fraud and sanctions.
