Senior DevOps Engineer

The Insolvency Service, in partnership with Inspire People, is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with expertise in Microsoft Azure, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, platform engineering and cloud operations to help drive the organisation's transition to a fully in-house DevOps capability. Based in Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Ipswich, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Nottingham on a permanent SEO appointment, this role offers hybrid working, a salary of £48,429 to £52,222 (national), plus a discretionary Recruitment & Retention allowance of up to £11,000.

Digital Services has recently transitioned from a third-party DevOps model to an in-house engineering capability. As part of the Insolvency Service's wider technology modernisation programme, you'll help standardise and consolidate the technology estate, improve engineering practices, and build secure, resilient cloud platforms that support key public services. This is an opportunity to influence the future direction of DevOps across the organisation while working with modern Azure technologies at enterprise scale.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will:
* Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across Microsoft Azure
* Build, maintain and optimise Infrastructure as Code solutions and CI/CD pipelines
* Improve monitoring, observability and operational performance across digital services
* Ensure the security, stability and availability of production and non-production environments

Essential skills for the Senior DevOps Engineer include:
* Possess extensive experience in a similar role using Microsoft Azure
* Possess significant CI/CD experience using Azure DevOps (ADO)/Team Foundation Server (TFS)
* Have extensive experience creating, maintaining and monitoring both Azure PaaS and IaaS resources
* Have demonstrable experience of running multiple applications in multiple environments in a large enterprise
* Have experience is writing and maintaining bicep IaC at an expert level
* Have an active Security Clearance or be committed to gaining clearance within the first 6 months of joining

Desirable skills for the Senior DevOps Engineer include:
* Using Terraform to build, manage and maintain infrastructure as code
* Working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 environments or integrations
* Using PowerShell to automate deployment, configuration, monitoring or operational tasks
* Developing or supporting applications using C#/.NET
* Working with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate or related services
