We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Trainee Penetration Tester to join our Cyber Operations and Delivery team. 

Job Type: Permanent


Location:This role is Hybrid, and a mixture of home based and office working from our Edinburgh, Wythall or Telford Offices. 


Flexible working: All of our roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process. 


Closing Date: 


Salary and benefits: Starting Salary £30,000 per annum, plus 8% bonus up to 16%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more. After training and gaining relevant qualifications, this salary will increase to £40,000 to £45,000 per annum plus increased bonus.

The role


We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee Penetration Tester to join our internal Cyber Threat Team. In this entry-level role, you will support the delivery of penetration testing and security assessment services to help identify vulnerabilities and improve the overall security posture of our systems and applications. This is a hands-on learning opportunity designed to develop your technical skills under guidance and prepare you for a career in ethical hacking within the Phoenix Group.


What you will be doing:

Learning and developing skills across all areas of penetration testing, including Web Applications, Infrastructure and Cloud. Learning and applying industry-standard methodologies. Supporting the full penetration test life cycle from development of test plans to documenting findings in clear, actionable reports. Assist in conducting security assessments of networks, systems, and applications. Collaborating with senior testers to identify vulnerabilities and simulate real-world attack scenarios. Staying up to date with the latest security threats, tools, and techniques.

You will be required to complete the following industry qualifications within yours first 18 months in the role


OffSec Certified Professional (OSCP)


OffSec Web Assessor (OSWA)


What are we looking for?

Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field. Basic knowledge of: Operating systems (Linux and Windows), Networking concepts (IP/TCP, routing, DNS, firewalls), Web technologies (HTTP, HTML, JavaScript, common web vulnerabilities), Cloud Technologies Good organisational skills, and ability to balance competing demands whilst continuing to drive progress on priority items Good communication skills both verbal and written with an ability to articulate clearly and logically.
