At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

We have an exciting opportunity to join our growing team of Security professionals and work on a range of projects for our diverse client portfolio that covers Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) industries such as Rail, Aviation, Highways, Water, Energy, Power and Defence. We are focused on building and developing long term and mutually beneficial relationships with our clients. This role requires experience in CNI, involving the setting and delivering of projects and maintenance for integrated physical security solutions.

We develop solutions that address our client’s critical challenges when supporting their security objectives. As part of our team, you will provide support across the full spectrum of security engineering activities: design, development, integration, delivery and in-service support of complex technical projects. You will deliver security solutions, address risks and support secure infrastructure.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Full time employment with us is based on 40 hours per week but we will happily consider reduced or compressed hours that are mutually beneficial.
  • This role is based on a Hybrid basis from the Jacobs office in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, York, Leeds, Manchester or Warrington and will require occasional client travel.
  • We require you to have or be able to gain SC level security clearance.
  • Military experience is welcomed but ideally coupled with post-Service consultancy based work.

Additional key responsibilities:

  • Developing security standards and policy in line with client requirements and industry best practice.
  • Develop security requirements covering the different phases of construction, including but not limited to threat and vulnerability risk assessments, security management plans, asset risk management and protestor plans for an operational site.
  • Previous experience in writing security management plans and scope of works - practical experience of security risk / threat assessment approaches and the ability to convey the business benefits to ensure business risk owners are empowered to make appropriate and proportionate security decisions.
  • Conduct security reviews and audits, support accreditation activities with the client and regulating authorities.
  • Consult on security operations including protective monitoring, incident management, incident response and incident recovery activities.
  • Engage with all stakeholders including the emergency services & NPSA - create and chair working group meetings with stakeholders.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Degree-level qualification or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a strong technical background in physical security and commissioning integrated systems - additional professional security qualifications or certifications would be advantageous.
  • Detailed knowledge of security principles such as crime prevention in depth, design in depth & NPSA (Deter | Detect | Delay | Mitigate | Respond) plus experience in creating and delivering incident management exercises with an understanding of the JESIP principles.
  • Ability to coordinate planning and implementation of security projects in complex environments, understanding the design considerations with emphasis on operational safety and the security of operating environments.
  • Previous experience in CNI sector, involving the setting and delivering of projects and maintenance for integrated physical security solutions – especially in hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) and vehicle dynamics assessments.

Maths for Cyber Security Jobs: The Only Topics You Actually Need (& How to Learn Them)

If you are applying for cyber security jobs in the UK it can feel like “real security people” must be brilliant at maths. The reality is simpler: most roles do not need degree-level pure maths. What they do need is confidence with a small set of practical topics that show up repeatedly in day-to-day work across SOC, incident response, cloud security, AppSec, threat detection, IAM & security engineering. This guide strips the maths down to what actually helps you get hired. It includes a 6-week learning plan plus portfolio projects you can publish to prove the skills. You will focus on: Number systems & bitwise thinking (binary, hex, bytes, XOR) Modular arithmetic basics (enough to understand how modern crypto “works”) Probability & statistics for detection, triage & risk Discrete maths for logic, sets, graphs & complexity Security maths habits: estimation, false positive control & evidence-led reporting You will not waste time on heavy theory that rarely appears in junior or mid-level cyber security roles.

Neurodiversity in Cyber Security Careers: Turning Different Thinking into a Superpower

Cyber security is all about thinking like an attacker, spotting unusual patterns, protecting systems & responding calmly when everything looks like it’s on fire. It’s a discipline built on curiosity, persistence & noticing things other people miss. That’s exactly why it can be such a good fit for many neurodivergent people. If you live with ADHD, autism or dyslexia, you may have been told your brain is “too distracted”, “too literal” or “too disorganised” for a security role. In reality, the traits that can make traditional office work tough often line up beautifully with cyber security work – from hyperfocus in incident response to meticulous analysis in threat hunting. This guide is written for cyber security job seekers in the UK. We’ll look at: What neurodiversity means in a cyber context How ADHD, autism & dyslexia strengths map to different security roles Practical workplace adjustments you can ask for under UK law How to talk about neurodivergence during applications & interviews By the end, you’ll have a clearer sense of where you might thrive in cyber security – & how to turn “different thinking” into a genuine superpower.

Cyber Security Hiring Trends 2026: What to Watch Out For (For Job Seekers & Recruiters)

As we move into 2026, the cyber security jobs market in the UK is changing fast. Attackers are scaling up with automation & AI, cloud estates are more complex, & regulators are tightening expectations around resilience & data protection. At the same time, budgets are under pressure & some organisations are consolidating their tech teams. Despite all this, demand for cyber security skills remains strong. Skilled defenders, engineers & leaders are still hard to find, & the stakes are only getting higher. Whether you are a cyber security job seeker planning your next move, or a recruiter building security teams, understanding the key cyber security hiring trends for 2026 will help you make better decisions.
