The energy industry is undergoing the largest transformation since industrialisation at an unprecedented rate of change and we are positioning ourselves to be at the heart of that change.

Our aim is to be the leading global provider of solutions that enable customers to release £30bn of value per annum from distributed energy resources (DERs). We are building a Software as a Service (SaaS) subscription business with a global addressable market of £2.4 billion per annum, by digitally connecting hundreds of thousands of DERs with energy markets.

We are seeking an experienced Application Security Engineer that will become a member of newly formed security team within KrakenFlex. You'll play a crucial role in securing our software development processes, integrating security practices, and shaping a culture of security. This is a creative, and collaborative position that is a full-time member of an AWS-focused, agile engineering organisation. The role will work closely with our development and platform teams, to help them following crucial security principles and industry best practices. What you'll do

  1. Automation of security controls, security hardening of the developer and IaC processes (building, testing, release), supply chain security (part of the build process), related metrics and monitoring/audits.
  2. Develop robust and secure CI/CD pipelines, and manage integrated security tooling (SAST/DAST/SCA).
  3. Actively contribute to addressing security findings by helping teams to create comprehensive mitigation plans.
  4. Help achieve Shift Left in our software development lifecycle by closely working with our product teams.
  5. Organise and perform penetration testing of our products, and collaborate with external parties on those tests.
  6. Act as a technical security professional, providing advice and guidance to other team members.
  7. Contribute technical decisions to develop platform and security engineering roadmaps.
  8. Help cultivate a strong technical security culture across the company.
  9. Setup and maintain monitoring, metrics & reporting systems for our security tooling to achieve fine-grained security observability and actionable alerting.


What you'll need

  1. A strong technical security background
  2. Technical understanding of topics related to SAST, DAST, SCA, Secret Scanning, IAST, fuzzing, and SDLC hardening
  3. Firm capability of conducting end-to-end security assessment of an application.
  4. Multiple years of experience working with cloud technologies, preferably with a security focus. We work with AWS, but we understand the skills are transferable
  5. Strong experience in implementing and automating security best-practices
  6. Proficient with DevOps methodologies such as CI/CD, version control (we use GitHub) and full-stack repeatability
  7. Experience working with teams around the globe
  8. Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently
  9. Experience working with infrastructure as code tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform and CDK.


It would be great if you had

  1. Experience with AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CloudFormation, SecurityHub, GuardDuty, Config, Inspector, CloudTrail and other AWS Security services
  2. Software development experience in either Typescript or Python
