Join Serco’s UK & Europe division as a Security Architect and be at the forefront of shaping our IT security landscape with the Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS) team. In this pivotal role, you’ll translate business needs into actionable security solutions, identifying and addressing gaps in our current IT capabilities. You'll define innovative strategies to bridge these gaps, ensuring seamless alignment between project delivery, overall strategy, and architecture. Take the lead in driving critical IT security workstreams and make a lasting impact on the resilience and effectiveness of our systems.

As our Security Architect, you’ll take the lead in shaping Serco’s security strategy. You’ll drive key decisions on technology selection, guide seamless implementations, and oversee ongoing security services. By maintaining a detailed and robust security architecture across all systems, you’ll ensure a solid foundation for future design and innovation in our security technology landscape.

At Serco, we are proud to partner with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) in providing critical recruitment services for the UK’s Armed Forces. This new approach will, for the first time, see the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force have a joint Armed Forces Recruitment Service (AFRS). Delivered through a partnership of the MOD, Serco, and our consortium of partners, this service will provide end-to-end support from candidate attraction to assessment, onboarding, and Phase 1 training. Our team brings together best-in-class integrated technology and specialist partners to offer a holistic recruitment and skills solution for the UK Armed Forces, designed to modernise and improve the overall candidate experience. Main responsibilities of the role:

Support execution of IT security workstreams on projects by studying and understanding business requirements. Identify gaps between business requirements and current IT security capabilities. Define solutions to bridge identified gaps and ensure project scope is maintained. Implement solutions in line with overall strategy and architecture. Take operational ownership of all information security management processes across projects. Ensure certification and/or network accreditation to required standards. Work closely with delivery partners and client/business stakeholders to understand their needs. Roadmap solutions to address IT security needs of projects. Assure technical delivery of security solutions. Lead on all areas relating to security strategy and technology choice. Assist in implementation and ongoing security services. Maintain the security architecture of all systems used in security technology areas. Support ongoing design work with detailed security architecture. Own security-related documentation, such as the Security Management Plan, as required by projects.

What you’ll need:

Bachelor’s degree in an IT related discipline is expected but not mandatory. Thorough understanding of modern IT infrastructure, applications and Cloud based technologies. Strong understanding of Secure by Design principles and MOD security policies and requirements ( JSP , JSP , DEFCON ). Proven analytical skills with a logical approach to problem-solving and the ability to develop innovative ideas and effective solutions. Effective communication skills and ability to convey complex technical details to clients in a straightforward manner. Strong background in security architectures, processes and both industry and government compliances (ISO, CES, CES+ in particular). Background in Microsoft, AWS and/or Cloudflare security technology would be beneficial. Good knowledge of security standards, legislation, and best practice. Must be able to achieve SC clearance upon appointment. Serco actively encourage applications from veterans, military spouses, and reservists.
