About Us

Our Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) plays a crucial role in supporting criminal investigations and protecting the community. The unit holds ISO accreditations for acquisition, which are fundamental to our operations and ensure the highest standards in our processes.

The Role

We are seeking a meticulous and technically proficient Digital Forensic Examiner to join our DFIU. As a Digital Forensic Examiner, you will apply a broad range of digital forensics techniques to support major crimes and investigations. You will be responsible for the capture, processing, and analysis of digital evidence, ensuring adherence to ISO quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting and managing the forensic analysis of digital devices, including computers, mobile phones, and other electronic storage media.

  • Use specialized software and hardware tools to retrieve and analyse digital evidence.

  • Maintain the integrity and chain of custody of digital evidence throughout the forensic process.

  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports of findings for use in criminal investigations and court.

  • Provide witness testimony in court when required.

  • Stay current with developments in digital forensics and emerging technologies.

  • Provide specialist technical advice and guidance on digital forensic opportunities to both colleagues, investigators, and the criminal Justice System.

  • Lead and manage the maintenance and extension of the unit’s ISO accreditations, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

  • Participate in internal and external audits related to ISO accreditation.

    Requirements

  • A degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in digital forensics, ideally within a law enforcement or corporate environment.

  • Proficiency with digital forensic tools such as X-Ways, Axiom, XRY, Cellebrite, or similar.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Excellent attention to detail and ability to work methodically.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity. - Understanding of relevant laws and regulations related to digital evidence and privacy.

    Desirable

  • Certifications in digital forensics, such as EnCE, CCE, or similar.

  • Previous experience with project management or delivering change.

  • Previous experience working within a police force or government agency.

  • Experience with ISO accreditation processes and requirements.

    As part of the investigation process the post holder will be required to view images of extreme, explicit, and disturbing nature, including those involving children and animals.
