As digital systems grow in complexity, so do the risks and inefficiencies surrounding them. Your purpose is to help our clients and internal teams build secure, scalable, and efficient platforms making sure you’re embedding security, automation, and best practice from day one. You’ll shape and optimise DevSecOps approaches across Squarcle’s AI-driven products and client engagements, ensuring we don’t just keep pace with innovation, but lead it.

Our structure

At Squarcle, we work in a matrix structure designed to support your growth and success. You’ll have a Performance Manager to guide your career development, an Engagement Manager to support your day-to-day project work, and a Capability Lead to ensure best practice across tools, people, and processes. This role sits within our Digital Capability, where you’ll work closely with Kev, our Head of Technology Services, Mo, our Head of Software Engineering, and Alex, our Digital Transformation MD. Your Performance Manager and project assignment will be confirmed once your first engagement is agreed.

This is what you’ll be doing

You’ll be joining us as we build momentum. This means there’s room for people to shape how we grow, not just keep up with it. We know people are the secret to our success and so the level of this role will come down to the successful candidate. You can expect:

  • Strengthen and embed DevSecOps practices across Squarcle and our client projects
  • Own the technical design and implementation of secure, scalable cloud infrastructure (Azure-focused)
  • Support developers by building and optimising CI/CD pipelines that streamline build, test, and deploy workflows
  • Implement and advocate for best practices around secrets management, zero-trust security, and vulnerability mitigation
  • Secure containerised environments (Kubernetes, Docker) and develop resilient cloud-native architectures (microservices, serverless)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant security and privacy standards (e.g. ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR)
  • Collaborate across Squarcle’s matrix teams, taking accountability for delivery while supporting and developing less senior engineers
  • Continuously improve infrastructure processes with a focus on performance, automation, and maintainability

Where you’ll be stretched (and thrive)

  • We’re growing fast: That means there isn’t always a playbook. You’ll need to be proactive, resourceful, and ready to make things happen
  • We’re a multifaceted team: You’ll often wear multiple hats. Sometimes you’ll be doing work outside your job title – from rolling up your sleeves to supporting colleagues when priorities shift
  • Consulting isn’t always smooth sailing: Client needs evolve, projects pivot, and ambiguity is part of the job. You’ll need to be adaptable, calm under pressure, and comfortable navigating change

We think you’ll love

  • A culture that’s truly people-first: We’re big believers in autonomy, trust, and bringing your whole self to work. You’ll join a close-knit, collaborative team where everyone’s voice matters. No egos, no bureaucracy, just brilliant people doing meaningful work together.
  • Work that matters: You’ll partner with strategic clients to secure and modernise digital infrastructure that underpins vital public services.
  • Learn fast, grow faster: You won’t just deliver - you’ll develop. From hands-on engineering challenges and certifications to mentoring others and innovating our internal toolset, your growth is part of our strategy.

This isn’t just another consulting role. It’s a chance to be part of something growing, ambitious, and meaningful.

The skills you’ll need to succeed in this role

  • Proven experience in a consulting or client-facing role, with the ability to build trust and influence across stakeholders
  • Deep expertise in Azure Cloud, including configuration, deployment, and governance
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and other observability tools
  • Solid understanding of Azure security controls: threat protection, identity and access management (IAM), network security, and data protection
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform or Bicep, and experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments
  • Hands-on experience with Secrets Management and Policy-as-Code approaches
  • Confident working across cross-functional teams, contributing to threat modelling and incident response planning
  • An advocate for secure-by-default infrastructure, with a track record of evangelising best practices across engineering teams
  • Strong foundation in network security principles, including segmentation, firewalling, and intrusion detection/prevention

How We’ll Assess Your Skills

Our interview process for this role will involve two steps:

Step 1: Meet with our Recruitment Manager, Corina. She’ll introduce you to Squarcle, the role, and answer any questions you may have about us. We’ll be assessing some basic skills for the role and finding out more about your background.

Step 2: Meet with our Head of Software Engineering, Mo and our Digital Transformation MD, Alex. They’ll deep dive into the role and your capabilities.

What we offer

We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s what you can expect as part of the team:

  • 26 days of annual leave (including your birthday!) plus UK bank holidays — increasing to 27 days after three years, and 28 after seven years
  • You’ll also get five extra days for your five and 10 year anniversaries
  • Additional leave for members of the Reserve Forces and CFAV.
  • Private medical insurance - provided once you’ve completed your probation.
  • Performance related awards
  • Milestone and life-event hampers to celebrate life’s big moments
  • Funding for qualifications that benefit both you and the business
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Discounted travel through funded railcards

We review our benefits regularly to ensure they stay competitive and meaningful - so this list may evolve as we grow.

The cyber security sector in the UK stands at the forefront of protecting national infrastructure, business operations, and personal data from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. As organisations across all sectors recognise cyber security as a critical business function, employers are implementing the most rigorous pre-employment screening processes in the technology industry to ensure they recruit professionals capable of defending against advanced persistent threats and maintaining the highest standards of security and trustworthiness. Whether you're a penetration tester, security analyst, incident response specialist, or chief information security officer, understanding the comprehensive vetting requirements is essential for successfully advancing your career in this security-critical field. This detailed guide explores the extensive background checks and screening processes you'll encounter when applying for cyber security positions in the UK, from fundamental eligibility verification to the most stringent security clearance requirements and specialised threat intelligence assessments.
