DWF are recruiting for a Data Protection Officer to join the Risk & Legal Team.

As a Data Protection Officer you will lead and manage the internal Data Protection team, with the existing Data Protection Manager reporting to you. You will report into the Chief Risk Officer ensuring that DWF meets its obligations under all relevant global data protection laws and regulations including but not limited to the EU, UK, USA. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance is met in all other local jurisdictions from which DWF operate, or may operate in the future, or where Personal Data may be transferred to internationally.

We are very open to flexible working in this role and will adopt a flexible hybrid approach working from any of our UK office locations.


Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Data Protection Manager, Group Legal, Risk and Excellence and the Information Security teams to develop and monitor policies and standards applicable to the business and in compliance with all relevant data protection laws.
  • Develop and articulate a comprehensive strategy that aligns with the organisation's goals and market demands.
  • Advise senior stakeholders on the potential impact of emerging and evolving privacylaws and risks and leading on aspects of implementation.
  • Provide guidance on the deployment of new technologies and processes. Working with key internal stakeholders in the review of projects and related data to ensure compliance with local and international data privacy laws, and where necessary, complete and advise on privacy impact assessments.
  • Support the firm’s internal governance and accountability obligations under the EU and UK GDPR


What will help you succeed in this role?

Essential

  • Experience in UK and/or international data privacy laws, including the EU and US is essential for this role.
  • Strong experience within a legal or professional services environment with recent experience in privacy compliance.
  • Experience in developing policy and compliance training.
  • Strong knowledge of EU and UK data privacy and data protection regulation and a good understanding of other major privacy frameworks and evolving legislation worldwide
  • Sufficient knowledge of information technology and data management systems required.
  • Ability to undertake large, long-term projects, develop alternative methods to complete them, and implement solutions.
  • You will be required to register as the Data Protection Officer with the UK Information Commissioner for all DWF UK entities.

Desirable

  • Ability to work unsupervised, exercise leadership, and influence change.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong change and project management skills, including the ability to manage time well, prioritise effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.
