RESPONSIBLE TO: Technical Director
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Engineer to join our dynamic security team.
The ideal Cybersecurity Engineer will play a critical role in defending our organization against cyber threats by managing and improving our Security Operations Center (SOC), responding to incidents, and enhancing our overall cybersecurity posture.

Cybersecurity Engineer - Key Responsibilities:
Incident Response (IR):

  • Investigate and respond to security incidents, ensuring rapid containment, eradication, and recovery.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of security breaches and create detailed incident reports.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine and enhance the incident response plan and playbooks.

Security Operations Center (SOC):

  • Monitor and analyse security alerts and logs from various tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection systems.
  • Identify and escalate potential security threats or vulnerabilities in real-time.
  • Continuously optimize SOC workflows, tools, and processes for greater efficiency.

Threat Intelligence and Analysis:

  • Proactively research and assess emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and attack vectors.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks based on threat intelligence.
  • Stay up to date on the latest cybersecurity trends and regulatory requirements.

System and Network Security:

  • Perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on systems and networks.
  • Implement and maintain security tools, such as firewalls, endpoint protection, and email security systems.
  • Collaborate with customer IT and other LoughTec teams to ensure secure configurations and best practices are applied across systems.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to improve security awareness and train staff on incident prevention and response.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and SOC analysts.
  • Participate in regular security audits, risk assessments, and compliance activities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity, preferably in SOC, incident response, or threat analysis roles.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, GCIH, GCIA, or CISM are highly desirable.

Technical Skills:
Knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and threat-hunting tools.
Experience with scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.
Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security controls.
Familiarity with cloud security (Azure, M365) is a plus.
Experience configuring & supporting Windows 2016, 2019, 2022 Server
A sound knowledge of networking principles.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle multiple tasks effectively.
A high level of self-motivation together with a willingness to learn new skills.
A flexible and enthusiastic approach to the job.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Training
Internal training on products and services will be provided. However, staff are also expected to be consistently keeping abreast of new developments, which would impact on his/her areas of responsibility.

Travel:
Mileage is claimed at 33p per mile for site visits.
Hours of Work:
Your normal working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5:00pm.
Death in Service:
Death in service cover will be arranged @ 2 x annual salary.

Work From Home:
Our client provides a hybrid working environment with WFH available, when required.
