About the Role

NPL is seeking an experienced Cyber security Engineer to join the team responsible for keeping the organisation secure, who will contribute by maintaining and implementing technical controls from the endpoint, across the network and into the cloud. The role involves operational support, enabling project delivery and SOC activities, as well as ensuring system vulnerabilities are addressed through effective patch and lifecycle management across a diverse portfolio of systems within a corporate and scientific environment.

Responsibilities

Reviewing and acting upon security alerts generated by tooling. Monitor the environment for potential threats, vulnerabilities and indicators of compromise. Act as an escalation point for other members of the security team, providing assistance and mentoring where necessary. Contributing to the development of SOC procedures and documentation. Assist with remediation activities. Understanding Threat Intelligence and its use. Produce new workflows for automation tools.


Successful Applicants must be able to commute to the UKTL offices in Birmingham at least twice a week

We are now working in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working. About You

Key Requirements

Experience working with security tooling such as SIEM, IDS and Vulnerability Management. Knowledge of common network protocols. Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems. Understanding of security architecture. Having worked within a hybrid Azure environment. Experience of securing a multi-site IT environment and hybrid / remote mobile devices and computers.

To work in this role, you will need to have an SC clearance with no restrictions, or you must have the ability to obtain an SC clearance.
