Cyber & Infrastructure Engineer – On-Prem, Cloud & Security Focus
Location: Milton Keynes or Birmingham (hybrid after probation – 3 days in office)

A national technology and engineering group is seeking a proactive Cyber & Infrastructure Engineer to support secure, high-availability systems across hybrid environments. This hands-on role blends infrastructure and cybersecurity responsibilities, with a base location in either Milton Keynes or Birmingham (depending on candidate preference) and hybrid flexibility after probation.

Ideal for a skilled infrastructure engineer with Microsoft, Azure, and security tool experience, this role offers strong technical variety and the opportunity to contribute directly to the group’s security posture and operational resilience.

About the Role

You’ll design, manage, and secure infrastructure across on-premise and cloud systems, support endpoint protection and threat detection tools, and play a key role in ensuring system resilience and recovery. The role involves collaborating with IT teams, contributing to security projects, and responding to incidents alongside third-party SOC and internal stakeholders.

This is a delivery-focused role with varied technical exposure and strong scope for contribution.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and support secure infrastructure across on-premise and Azure cloud environments

  • Implement and maintain security measures across endpoints, networks, and servers

  • Monitor vulnerability scanning tools and lead remediation activities

  • Respond to and manage incidents in coordination with SOC and Group Cybersecurity

  • Assist with penetration testing, documentation, and DR/BCP planning

  • Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to uphold security best practices

  • Support technical delivery within an Agile environment

    What We’re Looking For

  • Solid technical experience in infrastructure and cybersecurity across hybrid environments

  • Knowledge of Microsoft infrastructure, Azure, virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware)

  • Familiarity with security tools and concepts (firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection)

  • Strong troubleshooting and incident response capabilities

  • Understanding of networking protocols (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs)

  • Clear documentation and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

  • Willingness to work in either Milton Keynes or Birmingham office (3 days/week post-probation)

    Desirable Experience

  • Exposure to Palo Alto, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Tenable, Zscaler, Illumio or Tanium

  • Experience with SIEM tools and security event analysis

  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS storage systems and secure data handling

  • Background in penetration test preparation or SOC liaison

  • Agile delivery in IT/security environments
