About the role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Cloud Security Engineer to join our Cyber Defence team at Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) on a fixed term contract until the end of the year. As a Cloud Security Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our systems and data. This role will have a strong focus on building and maintaining security tooling within a hybrid cloud environment.


Working as a key member of the Cyber Defence team, you will use a variety of tools and techniques to research, risk assess and mitigate security vulnerabilities and compliance issues across the Cloud estate, delivering cloud security integration projects. Providing technical guidance to the platform teams, to ensure cloud security engineering best practices to securely build and scale cloud-native infrastructure and applications.


What you'll be doing

  1. Assess Infrastructure as Code (IaC) designs, their implementation into production, automating where possible
  2. Provide regular input and guidance into cloud migration discussions ensuring security best practices and technical excellence is at the forefront of the agenda
  3. Design and document cloud security logging requirements and ensure compliance across the business during cloud integration projects
  4. Build and develop testing strategies to enable the deployment of new applications and services in accordance with security best practices.
  5. Document the security tooling, enabling other teams to architect and build solutions which conform to security requirements
  6. Provide cloud security subject matter expertise as it relates to cloud platforms and emerging cloud technologies
  7. Ensure cloud systems align with business objectives and technical requirements


About you

  1. Proven experience in a cloud engineering role, with a focus on security.
  2. Strong knowledge of security best practices, standards, and frameworks.
  3. Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, etc.).
  4. Excellent technical knowledge of AWS and Azure cloud platforms.
  5. Experience with SIEM platforms and native cloud security tooling.
  6. Strong technical knowledge with security and network tooling, such as Firewalls and IDS/IPS, EDR and cloud infrastructure.
  7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex security issues.
  8. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desired Training/Qualification(s)

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.
  2. Technical Security Qualification, e.g. SANS, GIAC
  3. Cloud (AWS/Azure) Certification, such as AWS Security Engineering, AZ-900 etc


Interview process

This role will be a two-stage interview process, consisting of a competency/behavioural based interview and a technical assessment.


Working Schedule

We are based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. This role is a fixed term contract, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We have returned to the office, however for this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern to enable you the option of working from home.
