Consula is recruiting on behalf of an organisation for an experienced cyber security specialist who can turn technical expertise into practical protection for essential systems and information.

This senior specialist opportunity combines hands-on security expertise with advice on how technology is designed, improved and protected. You will help strengthen the organisation’s response to cyber threats, develop security improvement plans and support the delivery of its cyber security strategy.

The role suits someone who can assess complex technical issues, explain their significance clearly and help colleagues make informed decisions about security priorities. Alongside strong technical knowledge, you will need sound judgement, attention to detail and confidence balancing competing demands.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor cyber threats and assess their potential impact on the organisation’s systems and information.

- Investigate security incidents, establish the relevant facts and identify practical steps to strengthen the organisation’s response capability.

- Translate findings from threats, incidents and security reviews into clear recommendations for improvement.

- Develop security improvement plans that connect technical risks with practical actions and organisational priorities.

- Advise on security architecture across IT projects, helping colleagues understand how proposed solutions affect the protection of systems and information.

- Explain security risks and recommendations to senior colleagues in a clear, accessible way, supporting informed decisions.

- Support audits by providing relevant technical information and explaining security measures and improvement activity.

- Contribute to certification submissions, helping ensure that supporting information is accurate, clear and consistent.

- Support delivery of the cyber security strategy, keeping improvement activity focused on protecting essential technology and information.

- Balance operational security issues with longer-term improvement work, maintaining a structured approach to competing deadlines.

Person Specification

Experience

- Substantial experience designing and managing cyber security solutions.

- Experience applying technical knowledge to the practical protection of systems and information.

- The ability to draw on relevant experience when assessing threats, investigating incidents and recommending improvements.

Technical Knowledge and Qualifications

- Current technical knowledge relevant to cyber security solutions, threats and protective measures.

- Relevant qualifications that support your cyber security expertise.

- The ability to connect technical security considerations with architecture decisions and practical improvement plans.

Communication and Judgement

- Confidence advising senior colleagues and explaining complex security matters in language appropriate to the audience.

- A practical, analytical approach to investigating issues and developing recommendations.

- Sound judgement when weighing security priorities and competing demands.

- Clear written communication when contributing to plans, audit information and certification submissions.

Organisation and Delivery

- The ability to manage competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

- A structured approach to following through on security improvements and supporting the wider cyber security strategy.
