As a Lead Software Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and developing high-quality software solutions, providing technical leadership and supporting a team of engineers to deliver secure, scalable and reliable applications. You'll combine hands-on development with mentoring, architectural decision-making and driving engineering best practice.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and delivery of complex software systems, ensuring high standards of quality, security, scalability and performance.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to software engineers, supporting their professional development and encouraging knowledge sharing.
- Write high-quality, well-tested code and promote best practice across software development, testing and continuous delivery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, application performance, reliability and security.
- Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback and maintain consistent engineering standards.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and contribute to modern DevOps practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support the delivery of reliable software solutions.
- Contribute to technical discussions, knowledge-sharing initiatives and, where required, recruitment and early-stage bid activities.
Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Experience designing and developing microservices-based applications and scalable software architectures
- Good knowledge of AWS or other cloud platforms, alongside infrastructure as code
- Experience writing well-tested code and working with automated testing frameworks
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and Agile software development methodologies
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Proven ability to lead engineering teams, provide technical guidance and mentor other developers
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of stakeholders
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
This is a full-time, permanent, fully remote role, offering a salary up to £80,000 depending on experience.
