IT Systems Engineer

A large global law firm is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to join their IT team . This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-grade infrastructure with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Azure, the Microsoft 365 (M365) ecosystem, and Cisco networking technologies

  • Salary up to £75,000
  • 9:30am to 6:00pm working hours
  • Hybrid working (2 or 3 days in the office)

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, a security-first mindset, and experience operating in a professional services or legal environment where uptime, confidentiality, and performance are critical.

IT Systems Engineer Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure within Microsoft Azure, including virtual networks, compute resources, storage, identity, and security services.
  • Administer and optimize the Microsoft 365 stack, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, Entra ID (Azure AD), and Intune.
  • Implement and maintain Cisco networking solutions, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless infrastructure, as well as Palo Alto Networks firewalls and security platforms.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex infrastructure and networking issues.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement best practices for data protection, compliance, and threat mitigation.
  • Automate infrastructure deployment and management using scripting tools such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Terraform.
  • Support hybrid cloud environments, including integration between on-premises systems and Azure services.
  • Maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures.

IT Systems Engineer Skills & Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure services (IaaS, PaaS, networking, security, identity).
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 administration and architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus, ASA, Meraki) and Palo Alto Networks platforms (e.g., PAN-OS, Prisma Access).
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience with identity and access management, including SSO and MFA.
  • Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to legal environments (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001).
