Head of Security Engineering (Product Security)
Salary: £100,000 - £110,000 + Excellent Benefits
Location: UK (Remote-first with occasional travel to London)
Employment: Full Time, Permanent
This is an opportunity to join a high-growth, PE-backed cybersecurity software company where security isn't simply something the business does - it's the product itself.
Trusted by Government, Defence, Financial Services and Critical National Infrastructure organisations worldwide, the business develops market-leading technology that protects organisations from file-based cyber threats.
We're looking for an engineering-first security leader who still enjoys getting into the technical detail.
This isn't a governance, compliance or traditional security management position.
Instead, you'll work directly alongside the CTO, helping shape Product Security across the organisation whilst remaining technically credible enough to influence engineering decisions, architecture and modern software development practices.
If you're happiest partnering with software engineers, solving technical security problems and embedding security into software development rather than policing it, this is the role for you.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CTO, you'll take ownership of Product Security across the engineering organisation.
You'll define Product Security strategy whilst remaining closely involved with engineering teams, helping developers build secure software through modern engineering practices, automation and developer enablement rather than process-heavy governance.
You'll help shape how AI is adopted across secure software development, ensuring security scales alongside modern engineering practices and AI-assisted development.
This is a genuine opportunity to influence both the product and engineering culture within a growing cybersecurity software company where security sits at the heart of everything they build.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve Product Security strategy across the Secure SDLC.
- Embed Secure-by-Design principles into software engineering.
- Lead threat modelling and security architecture reviews.
- Build scalable security tooling and automation that integrates into developer workflows.
- Partner with Engineering and Product teams to improve developer experience and security outcomes.
- Shape secure approaches to AI-assisted software development and engineering workflows.
- Drive developer enablement and Security Champions initiatives.
- Lead and mentor a small Security Engineering team whilst remaining technically involved.
- Influence engineering culture through collaboration rather than governance.
- Help mature Product Security as the business continues to grow.
What We're Looking For
You'll probably be a great fit if you've:
- Led Product Security, Security Engineering or Application Security within a software engineering organisation.
- Owned Product Security strategy rather than simply delivering security controls.
- Built Secure SDLC frameworks developers genuinely adopted.
- Strong software engineering background with the technical credibility to influence engineers.
- Hands-on experience with threat modelling, Secure-by-Design, security architecture and developer enablement.
- Experience building security tooling, automation or integrating security into CI/CD pipelines.
- Remained technically hands-on whilst leading teams.
- Worked closely with engineering leadership to improve security culture.
- Highly Desirable
- Experience applying AI within secure software development.
- Experience securing AI-assisted development workflows.
- Cybersecurity software, SaaS or cloud-native product experience.
- Modern DevSecOps, cloud security and security automation experience.
This Role Probably Isn't For You If...
- Your background is primarily Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), audit or ISO27001.
- You've moved away from hands-on technical work.
- Your experience is predominantly SOC, Detection Engineering or Vulnerability Management.
- You're looking for a large enterprise people-management role.
- You haven't owned Product Security within a software engineering environment.
Why Join?
- Join a growing PE-backed cybersecurity software company.
- Security is fundamental to the product-not a support function.
- Report directly to the CTO with genuine influence over Product Security strategy.
- Remote-first working with occasional London travel.
- Small, highly collaborative engineering culture.
- Opportunity to shape how AI and modern engineering practices influence Product Security.
- Competitive salary of £100,000-£110,000 plus excellent benefits.
