This is a great opportunity for an ambitious hardware engineer to take a step up to become a Technical Lead for a team providing industry-leading, government-approved “data at rest” encryption solutions to government and defence organisations, globally. You’ll find no day is the same as the team’s capability extends into systems and platforms within a myriad of domains, providing access to versatile projects and exciting opportunities.

What will you do? As the technical authority for hardware development of secure digital design solutions, you will drive engineering excellence through the introduction of optimized processes, modern tools, and robust technical support. You’ll be supported by an agile Engineering Director every step of the way.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide quality governance across the Electronics, Mechanical, and FPGA disciplines, with primary technical deep-dives focused on electronic and mechanical domains
  • Define and improve the unified the hardware development lifecycle and CAD/simulation toolsets, specifically for new product introduction
  • Own and lead detailed electronic architectural design processes and verification & test strategies
  • Work closely alongside systems engineering and project managers to ensure teams hit deadlines and project milestones

What’s exciting is the role genuinely balances high-impact technical leadership with hands-on project delivery, splitting your time 80% on project execution and 20% on team mentorship and governance.

Character is all. As a hardware engineering and electronic product design specialist, you’ll want to expand your remit to lead, coach and support engineers, fostering cross-discipline synergy between often siloed FPGA, mechanical and board designers and wider engineering teams. A collaborative nature, drive and willingness to try new methods will be required!

What you'll need

  • 10+ years’ experience within the hardware engineering and electronic design domain, ideally focused on product/solutions within the government or defence sector
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar discipline
  • Confidence defining processes and toolsets across PCB, FPGA, and Mechanical disciplines
  • Proven ability to implement engineering governance and design review metrics across hardware ecosystems
  • Must be a UK sole national and have, or be capable of obtaining, UK security clearance
