Firmware Manager - Solihull / Birmingham - Perm - Hybrid

My Client is a global leader in advanced aerospace and defense solutions, seeking a Firmware Engineering Manager with extensive experience in Motor Controllers and Motor Testing

Lead a dynamic and ambitious Firmware team, driving innovation and excellence.

Establish a strong foundation in FPGA design within the team.

Oversee and manage complex work packages from concept to final product delivery.

Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to design and develop high-performance, world-class motor drive systems.

Required Qualifications:

A degree (or equivalent) in Electronics Engineering.

Experience with FPGA tools & technologies (e.g., Microchip, Xilinx, SoC, ModelSim, MATLAB, Simulink).

Demonstrated expertise in FPGA design and verification (VHDL), including:

Requirements capture

Simulation and code coverage

Synthesis, place & route

Timing analysis & closure

Configuration management experience for complex FPGA designs.

Strong collaboration skills across engineering disciplines.

Proven ability to lead and deliver multiple concurrent, complex work packages.

Hands-on leadership in FPGA design, prototyping, verification, and DO-254 compliance.

Ability to develop and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering innovation and technical excellence.

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of FPGA/ASIC experience in a leadership role (Manager, Team Lead, or Principal Firmware Engineer).

Understanding of Agile methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban).

Knowledge of Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) and SysML.

Experience with communication protocols, DSP, or VLSI math functions.

Expertise in SoC design targeting FPGA or ASIC.

Background in applying control laws to FPGA applications.

Understanding of motor control systems and sensing components (LVDT, Resolvers).

Experience in aerospace or military-grade designs compliant with RTCA/DO-254.
