 About the Role:

The Legal Associate will play a pivotal role in supporting the business by providing expert legal advice across all areas of the organization and managing legal risks. Reporting to the Legal and Regulatory Associate, this position requires a highly skilled and commercially astute legal professional with a deep understanding of financial markets, regulation, and compliance. The successful candidate will assist the Legal Team identifying, managing and mitigating legal risk to the business, engaging external counsel where appropriate, and working closely with various stakeholders to ensure that the business operates within the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

·        Legal Advisory and Strategy:

o    Provide strategic legal advice on a range of issues including corporate, commercial, employment, intellectual property, and data protection.

o    Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks associated with the Group's operations, new products, and markets.

·        Contract Management and Negotiation:

o    Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal agreements including, but not limited to, trading agreements, client contracts, partnership agreements, technology agreements, and NDAs.

o    Ensure that all contracts and agreements comply with legal requirements, internal policies, and risk management guidelines.

o    Provide guidance on contractual obligations, liabilities, and risks to internal stakeholders.

·        Litigation and Dispute Resolution:

o    Participate in litigation, disputes, and regulatory investigations involving the Group, working closely with external counsel where necessary.

o    Utilize effective strategies for dispute resolution, minimizing the group’s exposure to legal risks and financial loss.

o    Represent the Group credibly in negotiations and mediations as required.

·        Regulatory Analysis:

o    Collaborate with the wider Legal Team to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and increase awareness of industry standards across all jurisdictions in which LMAX Group operates.

o    Contribute to the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, licenses, and notifications, including interactions with regulatory bodies such as the FCA and other relevant authorities.

·        Cross-Functional Collaboration:

o    Collaborate with other departments, including Compliance, Risk, Finance, Operations, and Technology, to provide legal support and ensure alignment on key initiatives and projects.

Requirements

·         Qualified solicitor in England and Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction) with a minimum of 2 years of post-qualification experience (PQE).

·         Experience in a legal position advising, or within, a financial services firm, fintech, or regulated environment.

·         Awareness  of UK financial services regulation, including familiarity with FCA rules and regulations.

·         Ability to  manage and negotiate complex contracts, litigation, and dispute resolution.

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

·         Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice.

·         High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.

Preferred Skills:

·         Experience in financial technology (fintech) or digital assets/cryptocurrency markets.

·         Familiarity with global financial regulations and cross-border transactions.

·         Knowledge of data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR) and cybersecurity regulations.
