A brilliant opportunity to join an innovative team building high-integrity, security-critical FPGA solutions. Whether you’re a recent graduate building foundations or a seasoned engineer leading architecture and verification, you’ll work across cutting-edge designs used in complex, mission-critical products (with exposure to applied cryptography and wider microelectronics).
Location: Derby (UK travel between sites may be required)
Salary: £30,000–£75,000 DOE + benefits

Requirements for FPGA Engineer:

Degree in a relevant STEM field (e.g. Electronics, Electrical, Computer or Communications Engineering).

Strong FPGA design fundamentals and VHDL skills; ability to write, test and debug via simulation and on-device.

Familiarity with at least one major toolchain (e.g. Vivado, Quartus or Libero) and version control (GIT/SVN/CVS).

For experienced candidates: proven end-to-end FPGA delivery, interface definition, TCL scripting, and robust verification approaches (e.g., UVM/OSVVM/ABV).

Bonus points for: experience with Xilinx / Intel (Altera) / Microchip devices; ModelSim/QuestaSim; SystemVerilog/Verilog; Layer-2/3 networking, USB 3.2 or NVMe; Red Hat Linux; interest in cryptographic systems.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time-management; able to work autonomously and collaboratively. *** Due to the nature of the projects and this requiring very high level security clearance, you must be a British Citizen, and have lived in the UK consistently for the past decade - you should be happy to gain security clearance before starting.

Responsibilities  for FPGA Engineer:

Design and develop FPGA modules and subsystems across a range of devices and SoC platforms.

Create clean, maintainable RTL (VHDL / Verilog / SystemVerilog); build testbenches and validate via simulation and hardware.

Integrate FPGA blocks into wider system architectures; collaborate with software, hardware and verification colleagues.

Keep pace with new devices, tooling and methods; champion quality, reliability and best practice.

For senior hires: lead work-packages, own interfaces and delivery plans, mentor others, and drive verification strategy.

What the role offers:

Impactful work on advanced, security-critical products with a supportive, expert team.

Structured development and progression (mentoring, on-the-job learning, targeted training).

Competitive package including pension and life assurance, plus additional benefits.

Security & Eligibility:

Due to project sensitivities, you must be a British Citizen and able to obtain and maintain DV clearance.

Cyber Security Hiring Trends 2026: What to Watch Out For (For Job Seekers & Recruiters)

As we move into 2026, the cyber security jobs market in the UK is changing fast. Attackers are scaling up with automation & AI, cloud estates are more complex, & regulators are tightening expectations around resilience & data protection. At the same time, budgets are under pressure & some organisations are consolidating their tech teams. Despite all this, demand for cyber security skills remains strong. Skilled defenders, engineers & leaders are still hard to find, & the stakes are only getting higher. Whether you are a cyber security job seeker planning your next move, or a recruiter building security teams, understanding the key cyber security hiring trends for 2026 will help you make better decisions.

Cyber Security Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Must Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK cyber security hiring has shifted from title‑led CV screens to capability‑driven assessments that emphasise incident readiness, cloud & identity security, detection engineering, governance/risk/compliance (GRC), measurable MTTR/coverage gains & secure‑by‑default engineering. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews, & how to prepare—especially for SOC analysts, detection engineers, blue/purple teamers, penetration testers, cloud security engineers, DFIR, AppSec, GRC & security architecture. Who this is for: SOC & detection engineers, security operations leads, DFIR analysts, penetration testers/red teamers, purple teamers, AppSec/DevSecOps engineers, security architects, cloud security engineers, identity/IAM engineers, vulnerability managers, GRC/compliance specialists, product security & security programme managers targeting roles in the UK.

Why Cyber Security Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Cyber security used to be viewed primarily as a technical discipline: firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection, penetration testing. In the UK today, it’s far broader. Organisations now face complex legal frameworks, ethical dilemmas, human-behaviour risks, communication challenges & usability hurdles. This shift means cyber security careers are becoming more multidisciplinary. From protecting NHS patient records to defending financial services, securing supply chains & safeguarding national infrastructure, cyber security now touches every sector. Employers increasingly want professionals who understand law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design alongside traditional technical skills. In this article, we’ll explore why UK cyber security careers are expanding in this way, how these five disciplines shape the profession, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this new landscape.
