Job Description

We are currently embarked on an exciting journey to become the global leader in providing Reactor Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Management Services to service the needs of the worldwide fleet of ageing nuclear reactors as decommissioning progresses.

It’s a stimulating time for the nuclear sector as there is a growing sense of responsibility and investment for the safe decommissioning of nuclear reactors and the management of the UK’s significant inventory of legacy wastes.

Our Reactor Operations and Decommissioning (RO&D) team is a technically diverse group of scientists and engineers, well-placed to meet these imminent and ongoing challenges in the UK, and beyond.

As a result of continued growth, we are looking to recruit scientists and engineers to join our team as Assistant Waste and Decommissioning Consultants at locations throughout the UK including Bristol, Epsom, Manchester, Sheffield, Derby and Glasgow. We welcome hybrid working arrangements.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will be responsible for the following tasks, depending on knowledge and experience:

Work alongside colleagues and key clients, tackling challenges in radioactive waste and decommissioning projects. Contribute to bids and proposals and provide technical text, diagrams and case studies. Maintain a strong customer focus to sustain and develop client relationships. Assist in successful project delivery to meet targets and work within budget and programme scope. Develop innovative solutions to nuclear sector challenges through application of novel approaches, e.g. radiological dose modelling, automation, decommissioning technologies.

Requirements:

Ideally, degree-qualified in Science (Chemistry, Physics, Environmental) or Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Process) although candidates with significant relevant technical experience will be considered. Experience of consultancy or working in a regulated industry. Good standard of literacy and the ability to write clear, concise technical reports. Innovative, open to ideas, and possess a questioning attitude. Flexible approach to work and willing to travel to client sites, as required. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Desirable:

Knowledge of the nuclear sector and decommissioning. On-site experience at a nuclear facility or high-hazard industrial site. An understanding of radiation principles and protection requirements. Understanding of the waste – management, practices, and solutions.
