Purpose of the role

We have a new vacancy for a construction legal counsel to support the Head of Legal in addressing the UK HQ and divisional-wide legal needs of the business. This is a much broader commercial role than typical for a construction legal counsel reflecting the innovative multi-disciplinary approach of the business.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the business in addressing its legal needs across a spectrum of legal areas including construction, commercial, and procurement.
  • As a Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for the delivery of commercially focused, legal advice and support to the business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial, construction and engineering agreements. 
  • Familiarity with key standard form of construction contracts including NEC. 
  • Involvement in managing disputes from time to time.
  • Dealing with ad-hoc property matters. 
  • Assisting in delivering or facilitating training within the Procurement Team and, where appropriate, across the business.
  • Involvement in Data Protection and liaising with Company Data Protection Officer.
  • Reviewing, drafting and amending various policies and standard form contracts from time to time.
  • Assisting with the legal training and development of other members of the legal team.
Person Specification
  • Qualified to practice in England. 
  • Minimum 2 years’ PQE experience in non-contentious construction law from a top 100 law firm. 
  • Experience in disputes is desirable but not essential. 
  • Confident working independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to identify risk from both a commercial and legal perspective and assist with finding creative solutions.
  • Strong ability to communicate and to balance, priorities and manage a diverse workload.
