We are pleased to be working with a well-established but rapidly growing financial services company, to recruit an InterimPrivacy Counsel on a 6-month fixed term contract.


The business is a diversified financial service company with interest across a wide range of industries. They are US listed and but have a significant global footprint.


The role

Reporting to the Legal Director you will be responsible for


  • Helping to monitor compliance and data practices internally to ensure the business and its functions align with the applicable requirements under the GDPR and data protection laws in applicable jurisdictions.
  • Support the development of the data governance function and related procedures.
  • Advise on regulatory matters including compliance with the GDPR, European payments regulations and those in other jurisdictions.
  • Implementing measures and a privacy governance framework to manage data use in compliance with the GDPR, including developing templates for data collection, assisting with data mapping, and vendor management reviews.
  • Create and maintain a variety of internal policies and compliance related documents.
  • Work with outside counsel to help advise on local data privacy law issues across various international businesses.
  • Collaborate with all business lines and with the Data Protection Officer.
  • Lead staff training, data protection impact assessments and internal audits.
  • Line management responsibility for a team of three lawyers.


About you

  • Ideally a qualified lawyer with 3+ PQE years’ experience within a compliance or legal function with strong experience in privacy compliance, preferably in the financial services or other regulated industry.
  • A track record of handling a busy workload with minimal supervision, demonstrating excellent critical judgement, quick thinking and agility.
  • Strong background in advising on GDPR and global data protection matters.
  • Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as CIPP, CIPT.
  • Experience in developing policy and compliance training.
  • Comfortable working with and advising senior executives
