The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Chairman, the Director of Engineering for our new London office will be instrumental in building and nurturing a high-performing software development team, with a strong emphasis on AI integration into core development processes. Additionally, you will oversee an existing software team responsible for maintaining our core .NET-based platform as well building new products in a React and Node.js-based stack.

You will foster a culture of innovation and collaboration in a state-of-the-art office, working closely with the Director of Engineering in Vancouver to ensure global alignment and leverage shared expertise. This is an opportunity to shape the future of AI-powered aviation technology.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Define and drive the vision, strategy, and execution of AI-integrated software development projects, ensuring alignment with TrustFlight’s long-term business goals.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop a technical roadmap that balances innovation, scalability, and security.

  • Foster an inclusive, innovative, and high-performance engineering culture that attracts and retains top-tier talent.

2. People Leadership

  • Build, develop, and lead a cross-functional engineering team, including Technical Leads, Software Engineers, and QA specialists.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation, encouraging experimentation and knowledge sharing.

  • Provide mentorship and career development opportunities for engineers at all levels, cultivating future leaders within the organization.

  • Use data-driven insights to identify opportunities for team improvement, recognize outstanding performance, and drive operational excellence.

  • Lead initiatives to encourage remote engineers to embrace in-office collaboration, demonstrating its benefits for teamwork and innovation.

3. Technical Excellence

  • Oversee the design, architecture, and development integrating AI and data-driven tools.

  • Guide the team in incorporating AI into development, testing, and deployment pipelines to enhance efficiency and product quality.

  • Ensure the stability, security, and scalability of our platforms, products, and new-stack modules, leading continuous improvements.

  • Champion cybersecurity best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies, particularly AI advancements, and assess their impact on our products and engineering processes.

  • Work closely with the Director of Engineering in Vancouver to align on shared projects, best practices, and cross-product innovation.

4. Project Delivery and Accountability

  • Lead the planning, prioritization, and execution of software projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

  • Partner with Product Managers to define project requirements, scope, and success metrics, balancing technical feasibility with business objectives.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensuring project continuity and smooth execution.

  • Maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction, ensuring that project outcomes meet or exceed user expectations.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary engineering leader in the UK, ensuring seamless collaboration with global teams.

  • Work closely with Directors of Engineering in Vancouver to drive cross-product initiatives and maintain a unified approach to technology.

  • Partner with Product Managers, designers, and senior leadership to align product development with market and customer needs.

  • Build strategic relationships with technology providers, academic institutions, and industry experts to stay at the forefront of innovation.



Essential:

  • Proven leadership experience in a high-growth SaaS or technology environment.

  • Deep expertise in software architecture, system design, scalability, and cybersecurity best practices.

  • Strong track record of leading teams that integrate AI into software development and product delivery.

  • Hands-on experience with modern software stacks, including React, TypeScript, Node.js, C#, and .NET.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical teams.

  • Experience managing large-scale software projects, ensuring on-time delivery and high-quality outcomes.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based architectures and DevOps best practices.

  • Experience in setting up or scaling engineering teams or development offices.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the aviation industry or regulatory environments.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary range: the typical hire range for this position is from £120,000 - £140,000 plus a generous benefit package. The base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on skills, job related knowledge, experience and internal equity.
