Debt Recovery Team Leader

Reports to - Deputy Head of Costs and Debt Recovery

Role Purpose

To assist the Head of Department in the day-to-day management of the Debt Recovery Team, with the aim of ensuring maximum Client conversion and debt recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of Debt Recovery Paralegals.

  • Ensuring that the team achieve their monthly and annual targets, for both Client conversion and debt recovery.

  • Ensuring that individual team members’ training and development needs are identified and addressed.

  • Regular one to ones with team members.

  • Liaising with Clients in relation to their claims for compensation.

  • Client conversion.

  • Carrying out residency and other searches.

  • Assessing Debtors’ ability to pay.

  • Negotiating with Debtors.

  • Commencement of the Pre-Action Protocols.

  • Issuing Part 7 and Part 8 Proceedings.

  • Drafting Court documents, to include applications for Attachment of Earnings Orders and Charging Orders.

  • Drafting Witness Statements.

  • Preparing cases for Trial.

  • Liaising with in house Legal Teams and other Businesses

  • Instructing and liaising with external agencies.

  • Ensure compliance with Information Security Policies including data confidentiality and the operational security of the Information Systems used.

  • Any ad hoc or additional duties as deemed fit and appropriate by the Management Team for this post and the associated level of responsibility attached to it.

    Personal Specification

  • Experience in leading a team.

  • Experience in handling Clients, and the claims process.

  • Litigation experience in debt recovery.

  • Experience in claims arising as a result of breach of contract.

  • Knowledge of the Pre-Action Protocols and Civil Procedure Rules.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and have good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to motivate, coach and support others.

  • Experience of working towards deadlines and performance objectives.

  • Ability to assist with communicating vision, strategy, and commercial awareness.

  • Ability to assist with implementing change with a flexible approach.

  • Ability to solve problems by way of critical analysis and effective decision making
