Senior Manager Underwriting IT Product Management and Governance

Let’s care for tomorrow.

Your ambitions. Your dreams. Your tomorrow

Whether it’s aircraft, international business or offshore wind parks, Allianz Commercial has an extensive range of risks covered when it comes to protecting businesses.

We are looking for a Senior Manager Underwriting IT Product Management and Governance, based in London.

Your Team

Our team is committed to driving innovation and excellence across underwriting IT products globally. We oversee the full application lifecycle—from development to governance—ensuring alignment with business needs, regulatory requirements, and strategic goals. By collaborating across functions, regions, and Allianz entities, we deliver high-impact solutions that boost underwriting productivity, efficiency, and value. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, transparency, and global harmonization, we create future-ready systems that support the evolving needs of our customers and business partners.

The Impact You Will Have

In this role, you will have a direct impact on shaping the future of underwriting technology at a global scale. By leading the strategic development and governance of core IT products, you will enable smarter, faster underwriting decisions, enhance operational efficiency, and drive alignment across regions and business units. Your leadership will influence critical system enhancements, optimize application lifecycles, and ensure delivery of high-value solutions that meet customer needs and regulatory standards—ultimately transforming how we deliver underwriting excellence.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • You will strategically assess customer needs and translate business requirements from lines of business and CUO functions into actionable IT priorities that drive underwriting value.

  • You will define and maintain a strategic vision and roadmap for the underwriting IT product portfolio, ensuring alignment with business goals, transformation strategies, and decommissioning or consolidation initiatives.

  • You will prioritize functional and non-functional requirements in collaboration with key stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes for underwriters and improve broker experience.

  • You will guide and support cross-functional teams, including Business Analysts, Product Owners, and developers through the delivery of enhancements, ensuring timely execution of agreed priorities.

  • You will work closely with AZ Technology to lead delivery through each Program Increment (PI), managing timelines, budgets, and quality expectations.

  • You will provide cost transparency and financial oversight of the product portfolio, ensuring plan vs. actual tracking and clear P&L accountability across lines of business.

  • You will take proactive steps to address financial or delivery deviations, escalating and coordinating with the Global Head when necessary to stay on track.

  • You will ensure IT applications meet all Allianz governance, risk, and compliance requirements, including identity and access management controls like AOR and UAR.

  • You will identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the application landscape, safeguarding data, continuity, and access in line with AGCS risk appetite.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Information Technology, Engineering, or any other relevant discipline.

  • Deep understanding of insurance industry practices and underwriting workflows, with a proven ability to design and execute business processes.

  • Extensive experience in managing complex, cross-functional transformation projects within a global, matrix-managed environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage effectively across all levels and geographies.

  • In-depth knowledge of risk management, governance frameworks, and application control requirements (e.g. IAM, AOR, UAR).

  • Proven programme and project management capabilities, including prioritization, resource planning, and delivery execution under pressure.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven mindset and experience in developing data models and decision-support processes.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with demonstrated success working in international and cross-border contexts.

  • A strategic, change-oriented mindset with a hands-on, results-driven approach to navigating competing priorities

  • A solid understanding of data analysis, automation, and AI tools is required, with an awareness of ethical AI usage.

Why Cyber Security Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

Cyber security used to be viewed primarily as a technical discipline: firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection, penetration testing. In the UK today, it’s far broader. Organisations now face complex legal frameworks, ethical dilemmas, human-behaviour risks, communication challenges & usability hurdles. This shift means cyber security careers are becoming more multidisciplinary. From protecting NHS patient records to defending financial services, securing supply chains & safeguarding national infrastructure, cyber security now touches every sector. Employers increasingly want professionals who understand law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design alongside traditional technical skills. In this article, we’ll explore why UK cyber security careers are expanding in this way, how these five disciplines shape the profession, and what job-seekers & employers need to know to thrive in this new landscape.
