Senior Management Accountant – Sopher + Co

We’re looking for a Senior Management Accountant to join our growing Audit and Accounts team in Borehamwood. In this role, you’ll support the Business Services Manager and prepare management accounts for a portfolio of clients from core records, assisting with client and manager requirements. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise in management accounting while ensuring full regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts, providing analysis and reports
  • Carry out bookkeeping and VAT reporting to a high standard, maintaining accurate client records
  • Complete month- and quarter-end adjustments and reconciliations
  • Provide support and training to junior members of staff where required
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team and, when needed:

    • Prepare ad hoc reports for clients
    • Perform payment runs

  • Supervise junior staff, reviewing work and providing feedback for development
  • Mentor and train team members to maximise performance
  • Maintain client files and documentation in line with Sopher + Co standards
  • Keep up to date with developments in accounting, taxation and relevant software
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times in accordance with company policies


About You

You’ll have excellent time management, strong organisational skills and a proactive, self-motivated approach. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are key, along with great attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements


  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a professional services firm
  • AAT, ACA or ACCA qualified (preferred but not essential)
  • Intermediate bookkeeping skills, including monthly management accounts, prepayments, accruals, depreciation, accrued income and deferred income
  • Proficient in CCH, Xero and Sage Line 50
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for ideas and improvements
  • Strong time management, flexibility and adaptability
