Job description
We are looking for passionate and dedicated Mentors to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of young people across Bournemouth. This role is all about empowering young people to build confidence, re-engage in education, and develop positive, trusting relationships with adults.
You will work with children and young people aged 4 to 18, many of whom have Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, have experienced Permanent Exclusion (PEX), Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), or have other complex additional needs.
As a Mentor, you will:
Provide one-to-one or small group mentoring sessions.
Support young people to develop confidence and resilience.
Help them re-engage with education and learning opportunities.
Build and maintain positive, supportive relationships.
Work collaboratively with families, schools, and other professionals.
About you:
Experience working with children or young people.
Understanding of SEN, SEMH, and related needs.
Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire young people.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Essential & Desirable Qualifications:
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with young people
Experience of working with learners with SEN
To be eligible for this role through Prospero teaching, you must:
Hold right to work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
Provide references upon request
Possess up to date Safeguarding Training (or a willingness to undertake this)
