This post is only for current Interventional cardiology catheter lab Nurses working within the catheter labs.


The Interventional Cardiology Nurse specialist within the catheter labs will be accountable for the provision of highly specialist care.


The post holder will demonstrate advanced specialises knowledge and skills required for the service. The post holder will provide an expert level of professional practice within the nursing speciality in the cath labs.


The post holder will act as a second operator to support the consultant interventionist.


The post holder will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide specialist clinical care to patients undergoing interventional procedures.


The post holder will act as the catheter lab coordinator, ensuring the cath labs remain efficient, linking with other wards and departments to ensure patients pathways are effective and safe.

Clinical care

Act as a clinical expert and role model providing specialist knowledge and advice to patients, relatives and all staff working in the department. Act as a resource to other areas within the trust.


Provide expert clinical skills for the specialist service provision within the catheter labs for patients undergoing complex procedures.
Use the best available evidence to inform clinical practice and the assessment, implementation and evaluation of the delivery of patient care.
To be competent in recognising and managing post procedural complications.

Education and Development


·Act as a mentor and preceptor, supporting the learning and development of students and newly qualified nurses.


·Participate in clinical teaching sessions, audits, and reflective practice to promote continuous learning within the team.


Quality and Governance


·Promote a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement in the catheter labs.


·Participate in clinical audits, risk assessments, and quality initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.


·Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and guidelines relevant to the catheter labs.


Communication and Teamwork


·Foster effective communication within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring seamless patient care across the Cardiology pathway.
