As a Controls Engineer at BRUSH Power Gen, you will be an integral part of our controls engineering team, focused on ensuring the compliance including cyber security of PRISMIC products by developing and upgrading software standards. Your role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including software design, security standards development, risk assessment, compliance analysis, and supporting other functions. Your contributions will play a crucial role in safeguarding PRISMIC products and ensuring their secure deployment for various clients & complying to various security standards.
As a , you will be responsible for:
Software Design:Collaborate with the controls engineering team to design software for generator and power system control and monitoring systems, ensuring alignment with cyber security standards for windows & QNX platforms.
Security Standards Development:Develop, best practice, procedures, check lists and implement security standards for PRISMIC systems and solutions, meeting the diverse requirements of IEC and specific clients.
Common Terminology and Models:Create and maintain a repository of common terms, concepts, and models for PRISMIC systems that can be utilised by all engineers involved in control system design.
Security Architecture:Conceptualise, define, and implement security systems and architectures for PRISMIC systems to enhance their cyber resilience.
Implementations:Implement the secure network protocols such as SSL/TLS, HTTPS, SSH, SFPT, secure industrial protocols for PRISMIC control systems
Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment:Conduct and maintain ongoing threat analysis and risk assessment processes to proactively identify and mitigate potential security risks for PRISMIC systems.
Software Quality Control:Uphold high standards of software quality control, including the use of version control software such as GitLab.
Project Support:Support project execution by preparing and reviewing technical specifications and providing applications engineering expertise for control system projects based on workload and priority.
Cross-functional Collaboration:Actively participate in cross-functional activities, such as customer meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and product and project reviews.
On-site Support:Occasionally work on-site in the UK, offshore, and overseas as required to support sales and service personnel.
Professional Development:Stay updated on state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment through continuous learning, participation in educational opportunities, and engagement with professional organizations.
Engineering Objectives:Contribute to achieving engineering objectives as part of your continuous professional development and departmental priorities.
Support sales and service personnel by occasionally working on sites in the UK, offshore and overseas when required.
Updates job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, security standards, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations.
Accomplishes engineering objectives as part of continuous professional development and departmental objectives.
Partake in the continuous improvement and development of BRUSH Controls products.

To be successful in this role you will:
Qualifications or Functional Experience
Bachelor’s degree in software, Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering, Computer Science, or similar related subject. or relevant experience
Proven experience in defining & implementing cyber security standards within software-based microsystem
Excellent written and oral skills
Knowledge/Skills
Design knowledge of software-based microsystems / control and communication systems including Modbus, Ethernet and IEC61850
A high level of competency in C, C++ for QNX, embedded Linux and Windows
Solid foundation in Cyber Security Fundamentals (e.g., Risk Assessment, protecting control system, Cryptography, Security Protocols and Standards)
Knowledge of automation and control system cybersecurity standards such as IEC62443
Working to high standards of software quality control including use of GitLab and other revision control software.
Good knowledge of WPF, C#, and .net
Ability to interpret electrical power system and switchgear components
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team and meet project deadlines.
Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
