Building Safety Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Safety Consultant to join the Engineering division. We require an experienced professional to support the Team, who will help grow the Building Safety and Management Systems Team, delivering projects and developing good client relationships.

Working across a variety of projects both autonomously and as part of a wider Team, tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct comprehensive building safety and fire risk assessments for diverse structures
  • Develop and implement fire safety strategies and building safety plans
  • Provide expert advice on building regulations, fire safety legislation, and industry best practices
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and contractors to integrate safety measures into building designs and renovations
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for clients and stakeholders
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in building and fire safety regulations and technologies
  • Represent SOCOTEC in industry forums and professional bodies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering, Building Safety or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in building safety and fire safety roles
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g. CIOB, RICS, IFE)
  • In-depth knowledge of UK building regulations, fire safety legislation, and international safety standards
  • Construction technology experience understanding of modern building methods, materials and techniques to facilitate comprehensive assessments and informed decision-making
  • Knowledge/experience in fire safety design and passive fire protection systems
  • Safety assessment knowledge of how to evaluate building safety and energy efficiency
  • Health & Safety knowledge of regulations and best practices related to occupational health and safety in buildings
  • Experience in delivering multi-disciplinary projects
  • Strong analytical abilities required to evaluate structures, assess potential risks and devise effective solutions for various building-related issues or defects
  • Fire safety assessment experience
  • Fire risk assessment experience
  • Commercial knowledge development of MDT fee proposals
  • Knowledge of European health, safety and fire legislation and standards

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the component parts of a Building Safety case
  • Experience in the production of a Residents Engagement Strategy and / or Mandatory Occurrence Reporting strategy
