We are a dedicated 12-bedded inpatient Haematology-Oncology unit, transforming the way we deliver treatments to patients with a wide range of haematological disorders. Our vision is to provide specialist inpatient care, delivering complex treatments that improve outcomes and enhance patient experience.


As part of this exciting development, we are creating a service that will support patients through longer, more tailored stays—building on our excellent results in the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.

Main duties of the job

Deliver safe and effective care to a range of malignant and non malignant haematology/ oncology patients 


Able to administer oral and Intravenous medications safely and in accordance to the trust policy 
Able to administer blood products in accordance to the trusts policy 
Able to escalate any medical or nursing concerns effectively 
Support Junior and Bank staff with the delivery of safe patient care 
Able to deliver effective care to patients post chemotherapy and escalate any post chemotherapy complications
Able to care for septic patients

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder must be able to actively demonstrate and proactively deliver effective and personal care, which is safe for the patients, in a calm and compassionate manner to every patient, every time. This should be at the core of all planning which actively involves the patient and where appropriate, their relatives /carers. With the ability to escalate areas of interprofessional and multiagency care concerns to the ward manager, Matron or Deputy/Chief Nurse in a timely manner.

NMC registration


Degree in nursing or working towards

Desirable criteria

Mentorship or teaching qualification


Hamatology/Oncology course or willingness to undertake

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working in an acute hospital settling


Evidence of further education, training and on-going learning

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of Haematology disorders


Experience within a chemotherapy setting

Knowledge

Demonstrates awareness of current changes in the NHS

Knowledge of clinical effectiveness, research and audits

Ability to prioritise and organise workload


Ability to use computers and software
Competent in the safe administration of oral medications
