Associate Director - Building Regulations & Compliance Consultancy

To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity to join our Building and Real Estate Division. SOCOTEC is the market-leading independent provider of Building Control, we pride ourselves on being the experts and leading authority on building controls within the industry.

This role will provide a quality service by providing efficient and effective management of local resources with regards to Building Regulations and Compliance Consultancy in line with the company’s aims and objectives.

Working with some of the most prestigious and growing clients and teams you will have the opportunity to help grow the business and develop a class leading service to the industry.

Working across a variety of projects both autonomously and as part of a wider team, tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include (but are not limited to):

  • To manage Building Regulations and Compliance Consultancy Projects for Non HRB’s
  • To work towards the allocated company and regional financial targets
  • Participate in interviews for new staff as appropriate
  • To give support, supervision, training and guidance to an allocated team, or colleagues when a ‘team’ is required for a major project
  • To undertake and assist with the appraisal and evaluation of technical staff as necessary
  • Responsibility for the operational control of the customer base of an allocated team
  • To develop business opportunities and market the services offered by the company
  • To be fully conversant with all relevant legislation and ensure that procedures are updated accordingly
  • Maintain a portfolio of projects for a client base
  • Check all new commissions/plans to ensure compliance with building regulations and associated statutory legislation
  • Carry out or oversee all relevant inspections on site to ensure compliance with building regulations and associated statutory legislation
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to colleagues and clients on building control matters, as necessary
  • Consult with the fire authorities and other statutory bodies as necessary
  • To follow SOCOTEC policies and procedures with respect to the building control services
  • Ensure records and filing are maintained to ensure the company’s quality procedures, service levels and contractual requirements are being met
  • To communicate effectively (verbally, written, electronically) to meet the job purpose
  • Undertake other duties, within the competence of the post holder, as may be reasonably required from time to time

  • Associate or full membership of CABE, RICS, CIOB, or equivalent professional body (or working towards)
  • CSCS Card
  • Relevant qualifications in Building Control, Building Surveying, Architecture or related discipline
  • 37 years’ experience in Design, Building Regulations and/or Building Control consultancy
  • Practical experience assessing plans and conducting site inspections
  • Exposure to a range of building types, ideally including complex or higher-risk projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and deliver projects effectively
  • Strong technical knowledge of Building Regulations and associated guidance
  • Effective communication skills verbal, written, and report writing
  • Good organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset
